Hive Initiative

The Hive Initiative is creating tools to help companies integrate adaptation and mitigation efforts within their organisation through design-thinking workshops and implementation frameworks. As our planet warms and ecosystems continue to change, businesses will be increasingly required to make meaningful- and reportable- changes. As most people do not have a background in environmental science, it can be challenging to understand the full picture and how roles can be adapted. And while sustainability courses and seminars convey knowledge, it remains challenging to keep the energy high, the culture empowered, and the knowledge put into practice. The Hive Initiative’s Mini Climate Summit makes it easy to address these challenges. It brings employees together in real time to learn science-based facts and then gives them a forum to collaborate on solutions. With ideas captured and implemented, KPIs are met, ESG requirements are fulfilled and culture is strengthened. The result: more minds that help make company sustainability more active, enabled and empowered, which in turn makes society more educated and resilient. We are a group of people with high levels of climate anxiety- but also high levels of optimism. We want to use our skills in design and communication to make it easier for everyone to stay educated, hopeful and empowered, which will make it much easier for all of us to adapt to our changing world. As the founder, I wanted to work on solutions every day, and did so while having a day job. After 4 years, myself and my collaborators have built up a good product prototype, solid relationships with other climate orgs, and solid vision of what we hope to achieve. So it was the right time to focus on this fully. I really do believe that all of us want a world that is fair for everyone and is in harmony nature. We just have to figure out how to get there.

Helmstedt

HELMSTEDT is a fashion founded by Emilie Helmstedt in 2018 and was first seen on the runway with the SS19 collection, Oceania. From the outset, the brand has received international recognition from i.a. Vogue, ELLE and Forbes. HELMSTEDT works at the intersection between art and fashion – with the delight of the unexpected. The artistic approach is manifested in womenswear, sculptures, poems and from this year also a children’s collection. Each season’s whimsical universe starts from Emilie’s imagination and is brought to life in the HELMSTEDT design studio in Copenhagen – the Helmstedt House.

NordicFuture

NordicFuture is developing a platform that uses AI to match university students with study-relevant student jobs. Experience in a study-relevant job is one of the most important factors when applying for a full-time job after completing one’s studies. A study shows that 91.8% of students with study-relevant jobs during their studies are employed two years after graduating, whereas only 57.2% of those without such jobs have found employment. Another study shows that only 44% of university students are employed in a study-relevant student job. The problem is that many students find it difficult to start the job search, and once they begin, they struggle to find relevant student jobs. From the employers' perspective, we have found that many companies experience challenges in finding the right candidates, while others are unaware of the value a student worker can contribute to their firm. At NordicFuture, we aim to make the job search easier by creating a platform that turns the job search process on its head. Students only need to register on the platform by uploading their CV, after which they can wait to be contacted as soon as a study-relevant job matching their skills becomes available. To further elaborate on their profiles, the students will be asked to take a personality test to ensure that we can facilitate the most suitable matches. The AI will leverage insights into competencies acquired through diverse university studies, using this information to evaluate candidates' skill profiles based on the educational background outlined in their CVs. It will also have knowledge of competencies acquired through previous jobs. Overall, the AI will consider three factors when assessing the competencies and personality of a student: Completed education, professional experience, and the results of the personality test. The profile formed by these three factors will then be compared against the requirements of vacant positions in terms of competencies and personalities to create a match. At the same time, we make it easier for employing companies to find and filter relevant candidates without incurring high costs. We achieve this by attracting a large pool of job-seeking students to our platform. As with the process for the students, our AI then analyzes each candidate's competencies and the employers' requirements to make optimal matches. The AI will be asked to find 3-5 suitable candidates (or however many the employing company thinks is appropriate) which will be sent to a job interview. Thanks to the efficiency of our platform, we can dedicate resources to communicating the value of student workers to companies that may be unaware. By doing this, we will expand the pool of available student jobs, ultimately resulting in a higher percentage of students securing study-relevant jobs. We, the two founders of NordicFuture, are university students ourselves, who have experienced firsthand the challenges of searching for study-relevant jobs. Being part of the student community, we are attuned to the sentiments and experiences of our peers regarding study-relevant employment. An education is not just an education; it is the start of one's career. However, for many students, taking the next step and launching that career is currently a time-consuming and often discouraging process. This is why we believe a new approach to searching for student jobs is needed.

aParent.ly

aParent.ly is a pioneering match-making and support platform dedicated to modernizing family building through platonic co-parenting. We address the growing need for alternative family structures, offering solutions for those who desire to parent, irrespective of their romantic relationship status. Our service caters to individuals like Sara and Peter, who are eager to start families but haven't found partners to do so romantically. With societal shifts and the increasing acceptance of diverse family models, our platform meets a crucial demand. We facilitate connections among prospective co-parents by aligning mutual values, parenting styles, and logistical preferences. Beyond matchmaking, aParent.ly provides extensive support and resources, including expert advice on child-rearing and legal aspects of co-parenting. Our approach not only supports the biological clock concerns of individuals in their late thirties but also offers a community and framework for those pursuing non-traditional family setups. This innovative service ensures children grow up in nurturing environments by fostering strong co-parenting partnerships built on shared goals and commitments.

Unbelievable Labs

Based in Aarhus, Denmark, we are a Venture Lab for hard things, worth doing. Contrary to what many may think, the technological progress has stagnated for nearly four decades. Enabling and fundamental innovations such as the practical use of electricity, the telecommunications infrastructure, automatic computing, automotive transportation, heavier than air flight, genomics, and many other examples, all arose prior to the 1970s. What we have witnessed as progress within a generation is largely the application of these technologies in increasingly refined solutions. The latest wave of “softwaretization”, have increased operational efficiencies in multiple industries but also offset culturally and personal demand for tangible products and interactions, by web and app-based experiences. Our core thesis revolves around overcoming challenges in commercialization of scientific breakthroughs by providing the facility between scientists and entrepreneurs. We extend the conventional 10-year venture capital horizon, allowing for the maturation of technologies and customer demand. We focus specifically the hard sciences: physics, chemistry and their derived engineering disciplines. AirDodge

AirDodge is a Norwegian company with an HQ in Oslo, Norway. We are building an automated air traffic management system(termed as U-Space software) to enable scalable drone operations. Our target end customers will be drone operators. U-Space solves the problem for all drone operators by making it much easier to obtain permissions. It enables large scale Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations whereof today this is too costly for most companies. It also makes it safer for manned aviation such as emergency helicopters that will have full visibility of ongoing drone flights in the area they are approaching. Other drone operators such as police, search and rescue will be able to quickly deploy drones opposed to wait for helicopters to arrive. They may also mandate quick clearing of drones from any given area in case such operations must take place. Our solution is to build our own software platform and provide flight services according to the EASA framework recently published. These services will be legally required and the 4 primary services are defined by: 1) Drone Identification: This service will be focused on providing information on all the live drone traffic in U-Space to all participants (operators in the air). 2) Live Air Traffic Identification: This service will be focused on providing information on all the live manned air traffic in U-Space. All manned air traffic has to make themselves electronically visible if flying in U-Space. If a manned aircraft flies too close to a drone, then the drone pilot/operator will receive a warning message. 3) Geo-Zones: These are the core geographical definitions of airspaces on map where drone operators can see where they can or cannot fly. Examples of restricted airspaces include airports, military bases, prisons, bird sanctuaries, obstacles etc. Having an extensive dataset which displays all the possible flight restriction/warning zones is significantly important to drone operators as it ensures compliance and more efficient flight planning. 4) Flight Authorization: This gives drone operators the ability to ensure their flight path does not intersect/conflict with any other operators conducting drone flights in the same airspace. The flight authorization will require drone pilots to submit their flight path in 4 dimensions which include 3D trajectory and time. Flight authorization will also allow drone pilots to communicate with Air Traffic control to request a drone flight in restricted airspace. The response times for both types of requests will be instant. AirDodge was originally founded by Umar in 2022 in Sweden. A year later he moved the company to Norway where he met Serhii in 2024 and then they built the company together. Umar, as the founder of Skyqraft—a company specializing in drone-based powerline inspection—gained firsthand experience with the challenges of commercial drone flying while leading its operations. His deep industry knowledge, combined with Serhii’s technological expertise, laid the foundation for AirDodge. Together, they are building innovative solutions to streamline drone operations, making them safer, more efficient, and seamlessly integrated into regulatory frameworks. We are backed by Antler, Nordic Makers and also received grant funding from Innovation Norway.

Paint'R

In the European Union alone, more than 1.5 million paint buckets are discarded daily, constituting a disposal of 340 tons of single-use plastic that is incinerated each day. Starting from early 2023 (2025 in Denmark and Slovenia), manufacturers are obligated to cover the disposal costs of their packaging based on sustainability criteria. In Denmark, this translates to an estimated 15% fee on paint buckets. Furthermore, the conventional round shape of packaging has proven suboptimal for logistics and transportation. Beyond its environmental impact, the traditional paint bucket poses challenges for professional painters. These challenges encompass ergonomic issues during handling, such as the strain of lifting two buckets simultaneously, which exceeds recommended weight limits according to the Working Environment Authority. Painters also find themselves in awkward positions when pouring paint into a roller bucket for wall application. The demanding physical nature of the painting profession in Denmark results in accelerated fatigue and early retirement for painters. Additionally, issues like lid leakage due to dried paint and the use of fragile, porous plastic contribute to unexpected spills, particularly during abrupt vehicle stops. Our innovative solution involves a cardboard box housing two patent-pending plastic bags, each containing 5 liters of paint. This packaging not only enhances the workflow for professional painters but also reduces costs and lowers carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions by approximately 65% per unit. The box's design facilitates easy and ergonomic transportation, allowing for a 45% increase in units per pallet. The box is opened, and one of the bags is inserted into a standard roller bucket used by painters. The bag effortlessly opens and seamlessly fits into the roller bucket, wrapping around the edges, and enabling the painter to begin work promptly. This functionality is made possible through an innovative patented design and specific plastic welding techniques.
