Heka VR was born through a public-private partnership and research project called The Challenge Trial - initiated in 2019, funded by the Danish Innovation Fund and with the final research results published in The Lancet Psychiatry in July 2025. The results show that VR based Avatar-Therapy is a an effective new treatment method for 7/10 patients with treatment resistant Schizophrenia. Currently Heka VR is involved in 10+ clinical trials and studies around the world, from North America to APAC.
