Climate-KIC

EIT Climate-KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) is Europe’s foremost climate innovation initiative. We understand that keeping global temperature rise below 1.5˚C demands unprecedented change. It requires new social dynamics, ways of doing business, capital flows, policymaking, economic models, and new ways of living. That is why our mission is to leverage the power of systems innovation to transform whole places, industries, and value chains by 2030, working across sectors to develop and scale ambitious, mission-led programmes. Established in 2010 and headquartered in Amsterdam, we orchestrate a community of more than 200 organisations including large corporations and SMEs, municipal and regional governments, universities, and research institutes, as well as non-governmental organisations and uncommon actors. Historically, we have been funded by our founder and core funder, the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), but we are currently transitioning to a multi-funder model. EIT Climate-KIC colleagues are based in one of our local offices across Europe or work remotely from home based in one of the countries where we have a branch. BeneSit

ROPCA

ROPCA has the mission of helping patients by helping clinicians. Our tool is to develop robotic platforms for clinical applications with the goal of shorting waiting times in health care, create more precise and uniform diagnosis and to automate routine tasks. All over the world the challenge is the same: an increasing number of patients are covered by a decreasing number of specialists. ROPCA’s first product is the platform ARTHUR that is the world’s first ultrasound scanning system that the patient can use without an ultrasound specialist. ARTHUR can scan patients hands and give decision support for rheumatologists diagnosing and monitoring the disease rheumatoid arthritis. ROPCA is founded by a professor in medical robotics and one of the leading ultrasound specialists in rheumatoid arthritis, so we know the clinical challenges and the technical possibilities.

Simplewire

Simplewire is a young but fast growing hardware startup, trying to solve a problem as old as electricity itself. As you might know, all buildings contain a myriad of electrical installations, which must be marked according to their point of origin. The process is called marking. Today, it is done manually with thousands and thousands of labels on wires, sockets, lamp sockets and junction boxes. Marking costs an enormous amount of labor time in planning and execution, and is virtually impossible to do correctly, as human error is inevitable. That leads to poor marking, which is a huge concern for building owners. Simplewire is a digital system that's installed at the switchboard. ASK modulated signals are transmitted on the wires, and can be picked up wirelessly by our reader device. Doing it the old way, with labels, would have taken months and months to complete, and even longer in old buildings, if at all possible. With Simplewire, a whole building's electrical installation can be mapped 100% correctly, in less than an hour, and with no needed maintenance.

a:gain

We develop, innovate, produce and deliver scalable waste-based building elements and interior products for the professional built environment. The construction industry account for 40% of all waste generated and is the #1 consumer of raw materials globally. The embedded carbon in building materials account for 11% of global carbon emission. At the same time, global floor area is expected to double by 2060. Sustainable building materials will be key to reducing footprint from the construction industry. We need to change the way we build and focus on materials produced from non-virgin materials. We make it possible to accelerate the necessary change towards a reduced use of virgin raw materials in our buildings by developing new earth and climate friendly products and solutions based on waste, biproducts, unused resources, and discarded production. We make it easy for the ones who design and build to choose a waste-based product, for the benefit of the environment, the user and the investor. Our approach is scalable. We are experts in creating valuable upcycled products from scalable sources of waste. We see opportunities, when others see waste. Our know-how drives innovation and product development and shape the products of tomorrow with the waste of today. Together with our trusted production partners, we offer our products at scale to the professional customer with warranties, guaranteed delivery, certifications and documentations. Come join the movement!

Encore

Software development is oblivious to the maze it’s stuck in. Ideas rattle through clunky systems and suffocate under the weight of ingrained complexity, sending developers round in laborious circles. Holding them back from moving us forward. Encore changes all that with a pragmatic new philosophy that breaks away. From the complexity. The industry. From the stuck-in-their-way mindsets. By proposing a new way of building cloud software. With this newfound philosophy, Encore's backend development engine empowers developers and their ideas to escape the maze. Shifting development from its compliant tool, murmuring on and on — to being a driver of potential and possibility. We’re clearing a new path for better experiences and better builds. It’s a development philosophy that sets our work free. It’s time to break away.
