Kompostringen blei til hos Lystgården på Landås etter initiativ frå Bybonden i Bergen. Dyrkbart AS blei stifta året etter for å drifte Kompostringen vidare. I dag står Stiftelsen Lystgården og Anleggsgartnermester Wikholm som eigarar, og Dyrkbart har kontor hos VIS Innovasjon på Marineholmen.
