The story of Lingu started in the non-profit organization KIA which works with integration and Norwegian language teaching. The founders Edward Milsom and Odd Bjerga worked in this organization and came into contact with skilled and resourceful people from many different countries. The website lingu.no was launched on 16 December 2008, and our first language course started on KIA's premises in January 2009, with course providers from KIA's network. The method has provided unique features for the condition monitoring of steel structures. Material deterioration can be directly measured and early warning of risk for fatigue can be established long before any crack is detectable. Furthermore, the same sensors can also measure changes in metal loss, and thus provide for non-intrusive monitoring of internal corrosion and erosion in pipes. During the last years, instrumentation technology has been industrialized and the first commercial systems have been delivered and installed. Different types of instrumentation systems are available both for onshore and offshore/subsea applications. The industrialization, marinization, and production of the instrumentation systems are being done in cooperation with the most specialized suppliers.
