We are looking for an Art Director to join Son of a Tailor on a maternity cover (ideally from Nov 1st) and take responsibility for the visual expression of the brand across campaigns, social channels, and ongoing creative work.
Founded in Copenhagen in 2014, Son of a Tailor is one of the most pioneering menswear brands in operation today. We are a proud member of the B-Corp community and with over one million products sold, we’ve redefined everyday essentials through custom-fit precision and a transformative made-to-order production model.
Son of a Tailor is built around a simple idea: clothing should be made for the individual, not for inventory. We make custom-fit menswear on demand at our own production facility in Portugal, combining technology, craftsmanship, and a considered approach to product. Over recent seasons, we have established a distinct visual direction for the brand, which this role will be responsible for carrying forward and translating into new work. Precise but human. Aspirational but accessible. Contemporary without being led by short-lived trends.
This is a hands-on role combining creative direction with day-to-day execution. You will develop the ideas and visual direction behind campaigns and launches, but also design and deliver the recurring work that brings the brand to life across email, social media, and paid channels.
Working closely with the Product & Brand Lead and the wider marketing and creative team, you will carry projects from the first idea through to finished work. This includes directing photographers, videographers, stylists, and other collaborators, as well as designing social posts, creating and scheduling emails, adapting campaign assets, and making sure work is delivered on time.
Develop creative direction for seasonal campaigns, product launches, editorials, and ongoing brand communication.
Translate product and commercial priorities into relevant visual concepts.
Research references and present a considered creative direction with a clear rationale.
Create mood boards, treatments, storyboards, layouts, and guidelines for execution.
Define casting, location, set styling, composition, lighting, colour, and image treatment.
Brief and direct photographers, videographers, stylists, and external collaborators.
Guide campaigns from initial concept through shoots, leading final asset selection and overseeing post-production to ensure the finished work reflects the intended creative direction.
Design, build, and schedule marketing emails in collaboration with the CRM and marketing team.
Design social posts and adapt creative assets for different platforms and formats.
Create assets for paid advertising and other ongoing marketing communication.
Develop seasonal templates and visual guidelines that maintain consistency across recurring formats.
Balance longer-term creative projects with the continuous delivery of day-to-day content.
Give clear and constructive feedback throughout the creative process.
Manage several creative projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Minimum three years experience in art direction within fashion, design, lifestyle, or another visually driven consumer brand.
A strong portfolio of campaigns, content, and hands-on design work.
A distinct visual point of view and an understanding of what makes creative work right for a particular brand.
A considered understanding of menswear, styling, photography, typography, and contemporary visual culture.
Experience developing and directing campaigns and shoots.
Strong graphic design skills and confidence creating finished assets for email, social media, and paid channels.
Experience working with email marketing platforms. Familiarity with Klaviyo is an advantage.
Confidence working with photographers, videographers, stylists, and other creative collaborators.
The ability to create clear guidelines and maintain consistency across different formats.
Strong communication skills and the ability to give direct, constructive feedback.
Strong working knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
Good organisational skills and the ability to move comfortably between creative direction and daily execution.
Fluent written and spoken English.
An appreciation of Son of a Tailor’s product, business model, and visual identity.
A rare opportunity to shape the visual identity of a brand redefining menswear.
A creative, collaborative team environment in the heart of Copenhagen.
Competitive salary and benefits.
Six weeks of paid vacation.
A flexible working environment (we typically have Wednesdays as “work from anywhere” days).
The chance to work with a company committed to reimagining fashion through sustainability and innovation.
Please include:
Your portfolio, showing both larger creative projects and hands-on design work. Where possible, include some of the thinking and development behind the finished result.
Two visual boards of three to six images each. One should reflect your own visual identity. The other should show how you read Son of a Tailor and where you believe the brand could go next.
A brief cover letter explaining why you’re interested in working with us.
We are interested in your visual point of view, your understanding of the brand, and your ability to turn creative direction into strong, finished work.
