Where You Come In👋

We are growing rapidly as organizations across technology, energy, and finance turn to us for insights.

We are looking for a commercially minded Business Development Manager builder who thrives in shaping new markets. You will:

  • Discover Customer Value: Identify how our data can solve customer problems across a range of industries and use cases, both for new customers and through upselling or expansion of existing customers. This is the most critical part of the role: connecting the dots between customer pains and the value of our platform.

  • Build Pipeline: Convert inbound interest (e.g. companies signing up or engaging with us) into conversations, while also driving targeted outbound exploration in promising segments.

  • Close & learn: Take opportunities from first conversation through to agreement where relevant — focusing on what each interaction teaches us about our market, our messaging, and our customers’ needs.

  • Shape the Playbook: Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Product to codify messaging, qualification criteria, and repeatable GTM processes.

This is a role for someone who thrives on engaging with customers to uncover their real challenges, while also stepping back to spot the patterns that make our go-to-market motion more repeatable and scalable.

What You Bring🔎

  • Commercial experience: You likely have around 3-5 years of experience in roles where you’ve engaged directly with customers and helped shape how a product or market grows - for example in business development, consultative sales, or market exploration. You’re comfortable leading B2B conversations with senior stakeholders, mapping opportunities, and moving them forward.

  • Early-stage Mindset: Proven ability to operate in early, evolving markets where the sales playbook is not yet written.

  • Technical Curiosity: Eager to dive into a technically complex product and learn enough to credibly engage technical buyers.

  • Analytical Lens: Strong ability to connect customer feedback into insights that improve positioning and go-to-market strategy.

  • Collaborative Spirit: Share insights openly, helping the commercial team learn faster and win together.

What Makes This Role Unique ⭐️

  • Early GTM Shaping: You won’t just follow a playbook, you’ll help write it. This is about discovery, experimentation, and building the foundation for scalable growth.

  • Commercial and Technical Growth: This is first and foremost a customer-facing commercial role. But succeeding here means developing the technical fluency to engage credibly on topics like energy systems, data, and grid decarbonization. If you bring the curiosity and drive to learn, we’ll support you in ramping up quickly.

  • Credibility from Day One: Household names like Google, Microsoft, Cisco, and Meta already use our data. You’ll build on a strong base.

  • Category-Defining Impact: Work at the intersection of AI, energy, and technology - helping shape how the world’s most influential companies adopt energy intelligence at scale.

  • Career-Defining Opportunity: The role can evolve with you. As we scale, you could grow into senior roles across Business Development, Senior Account Executive, or Go-to-Market Strategy.

Electricity Maps

Electricity Maps provides actionable electricity data for more than 200 regions. We help businesses more effectively reduce their emissions, and enable products and services to differentiate their offerings by empowering end-users to be more carbon-aware. As wind and solar production fluctuate throughout the day, this information needs to be dynamic and updated in real-time. As this real-time information about the physical origin of electricity will be scrutinized and challenged by many parties, the effort has to be collaborative, open, and transparent. This is what motivated the creation of Electricity Maps. It started as a simple real-time data visualization in June 2016 and turned into a comprehensive data platform with high scientific integrity. More than 40,000 people use our app on a daily basis and market leaders like Google and Microsoft, are using our API for extensive projects in order to reach their climate goals and help their users take action against climate change. Our goal: a truly decarbonized electricity system. To get there, we will organize the world's electricity information, and use it to drive the transition toward a truly decarbonized electricity system.
