Senior Full Stack Engineer

Salary Competitive

We’re looking for a senior Full Stack Engineer to join our fast-moving PLG team. You’ll take full ownership of building user-facing products that help people and companies reduce emissions, from backend logic to polished UIs.

If you’re a product-minded engineer who likes real ownership, fast feedback loops, and turning ideas into shipped software, you’ll feel right at home.

About Electricity Maps🌎

Electricity Maps is on a mission to accelerate the transition to a decarbonized electricity system. Our platform provides real-time and forecasted electricity data, helping companies like Google and Cisco optimize energy usage and reduce emissions.

  • Our free map product is used by millions of people around the world

  • Our API powers products at some of the world’s largest enterprises

  • We’re backed by top-tier investors with deep experience scaling developer-first, climate-focused companies

We’re now expanding beyond the API and Map, by building a suite of new products to make our data more actionable and accessible across a broader range of use cases. This is a key part of our Product-Led Growth strategy, and this job is at the heart of it.

What You’ll Build and Own 🧱

You’ll be part of our PLG team, transforming electricity data into applications used by millions around the world.

Today, that includes:

  • Our Interactive Map, used by millions to explore electricity data in real time

  • The Developer Hub: covering the API, documentation, onboarding, and usage tools

  • The Data Explorer: our newest product for visually querying and building dashboards

  • Our Downloadable Datasets, relied on by thousands for carbon accounting and analysis

Beyond these products, we also own the infrastructure behind the self-serve journey:

  • Signup flow, onboarding, billing, and CRM integration

  • Product usage tracking, success automation, and enrichment tooling

As a Full Stack Engineer on this team, you’ll take end-to-end ownership of the features and systems that make this all work from backend logic to user-facing interfaces.

You’ll:

  • Shape and build solutions with our designer and product lead

  • Ship fast, iterate based on real feedback, and own your work in production

  • Help refine how we build, deploy, and scale across the stack

How we work 🛠️

We move fast, stay focused, and give builders real ownership.

We run 5-week cycles inspired by Shape-Up, with 1-week cooldown to reflect and reset. That means no endless backlogs, no micromanagement, and no pointless meetings. Instead:

  • Engineers help shape the work. You help define how to solve a problem, not just build someone else’s spec.

  • We work with appetites, not estimates. We don’t ask “how long will this take?” but instead “how much time are we willing to invest?” Then we scope the solution to fit

  • You own the outcome from shaping to shipping to supporting and tracking it in production

  • We protect your time. No interruptions mid-cycle, no last-minute scope creep.

  • We prioritize learning. Every project is a chance to sharpen how we shape and ship

It’s a setup built for momentum and for people who like turning ideas into impact. You can read more on how we work here: How we work

You’ll Thrive Here If You… 🔍

  • Have senior experience building and shipping full stack products end-to-end.

  • Are confident working with React/TypeScript and capable on the backend (Python, SQL, or similar)

  • Prefer shaping and solving problems over waiting on specs or a PM grooming the backlog.

  • Can scope solutions to fix a fixed appetite, not endlessly estimate or over-engineer.

  • Are energized by fast-paced, high-impact cycles and delivering value, not just features.

  • Make pragmatic decisions, stay curious, and keep learning as you go.

  • Are used to making product and technical decisions independently, even with incomplete information

  • Care deeply about usability, performance, and delivering value to users

  • Enjoy collaborating with designers, product folks, no silos, no hand-offs. , and fellow engineers

  • Take ownership, from code to production, and from wins to lessons.

Our stack includes React and TypeScript (required), with a backend built on Python, PostgreSQL, and GCP. You don’t need experience with our exact backend stack but you should feel comfortable working across a modern backend.

Bonus points (not needed to be successful) if you have experience with:

  • Stripe or payment systems

  • Product analytics and data tooling (e.g. PostHog, BigQuery)

  • Climate/energy domains

Working at
Electricity Maps

Electricity Maps provides actionable electricity data for more than 200 regions. We help businesses more effectively reduce their emissions, and enable products and services to differentiate their offerings by empowering end-users to be more carbon-aware. As wind and solar production fluctuate throughout the day, this information needs to be dynamic and updated in real-time. As this real-time information about the physical origin of electricity will be scrutinized and challenged by many parties, the effort has to be collaborative, open, and transparent. This is what motivated the creation of Electricity Maps. It started as a simple real-time data visualization in June 2016 and turned into a comprehensive data platform with high scientific integrity. More than 40,000 people use our app on a daily basis and market leaders like Google and Microsoft, are using our API for extensive projects in order to reach their climate goals and help their users take action against climate change. Our goal: a truly decarbonized electricity system. To get there, we will organize the world's electricity information, and use it to drive the transition toward a truly decarbonized electricity system.
