Your mission as our first Talent Lead at Electricity Maps

You’ll take ownership of all things Talent at Electricity Maps as we enter the next exciting chapters of our growth. Your mission will be to ensure we attract and hire Europe and North America’s best talent, in order for us to scale quickly, but thoughtfully and with great purpose. You’ll also play a leading role in building the foundations of our Talent infrastructure to pave the way for years of ambitious but sustainable growth to come.

What will the role look like?

This is very much a start-up Talent role, as we look to transition from our current recruiting approach (Founder-led, reactive, opportunistic, and reliant on external agencies) towards a more scalable and efficient way of building a world class team for the long term. You’ll be incredibly hands-on, owning talent sourcing, as well as the full recruitment lifecycle. You’ll partner closely with hiring managers and our Executive Team, providing expert advice and talent market insights as we scope our ideal candidate profiles and build out our future headcount plans. You’ll also be our go-to internal expert for candidate referrals, employer branding and the ongoing management (and interation) of our talent technology stack.

We think you will be a great fit for this role if…

  • You’ve spent at least 5 years recruiting for high-growth (ideally early stage) businesses, with at least some of that time working as part of an in-house talent team.
  • You understand the nuance of hiring for a business before it “hits the bigtime” from an employer brand perspective: you are outbound-focused, creative and tenacious in your recruiting approach.
  • You have hired extensively for both technical and non-technical roles, ideally across a range of seniority levels. You will likely have at least a couple of relevant areas of deep subject matter expertise, network and credibility (e.g. Enterprise Sales, Software Engineering, etc.).
  • You understand how to build thorough, trusting and successful Hiring Manager partnerships (including with Founders / Senior Executives) - you have proven experience being part of role-scoping discussions and know how to effectively push back when necessary.
  • You’re fluent in the modern recruiter’s toolkit, with deep proven experience with the ‘basics’ (LinkedIn Recruiter, creative cross-platform proactive sourcing, and ATS management) and ideally a forward-thinking approach on how to leverage cutting edge Talent Tech.
  • You’re comfortable with (at minimum) the basics of technical talent sourcing. You know your way around Github and can work with technical hiring managers to spot key patterns and trends.
  • You have used (or are excited to use) organic techniques to engage passive talent… such as hackathons, content creation, meet-ups, community events and more.

If you’re on the fence about applying…
Research shows that men apply to jobs if they meet ~60% of criteria, but women and those in traditionally underrepresented groups tend to apply only if they check all the boxes. If you think you have what it takes but don't meet every single point above, please still get in touch. We'd love to chat and see if you could be a great fit.

Electricity Maps

Electricity Maps provides actionable electricity data for more than 200 regions. We help businesses more effectively reduce their emissions, and enable products and services to differentiate their offerings by empowering end-users to be more carbon-aware. As wind and solar production fluctuate throughout the day, this information needs to be dynamic and updated in real-time. As this real-time information about the physical origin of electricity will be scrutinized and challenged by many parties, the effort has to be collaborative, open, and transparent. This is what motivated the creation of Electricity Maps. It started as a simple real-time data visualization in June 2016 and turned into a comprehensive data platform with high scientific integrity. More than 40,000 people use our app on a daily basis and market leaders like Google and Microsoft, are using our API for extensive projects in order to reach their climate goals and help their users take action against climate change. Our goal: a truly decarbonized electricity system. To get there, we will organize the world's electricity information, and use it to drive the transition toward a truly decarbonized electricity system.
