Upotential was founded 2019 in Sweden by Marianne 'Maja' Marescotti, a former elite tennis player, and Catrin Eriksson, an Ironman finisher. Maja and Catrin felt that something was off in the discussions around mental health. Instead of focusing on what can be done proactively to avoid mental health problems, too much focus had been put on reactive treatment. United by a clear vision to contribute to a healthier and more fun world to live in, the founders felt it was time to create a new solution and make mental fitness training social, accessible and affordable. The main idea behind the gym for mental fitness was to create a typical kind of gym, but instead of training your body, you would train your mental skills and work on everything it means to be human, such as discovering yourself, finding your passion points, going for your goals, and learning how to connect to yourself and others! The next addition to the team was Camilo Sáenz-Moncaelano, an expert with a PhD in Sport- & Performance Psychology.
