Newcycle

We are building Newcycle, because we want to end the throw-away society.   Every year our global society throw away 100 billion tonnes of materials. This obviously can't continue. At the the core of this issue lies a general perception that new things are more valuable than things we already own. Or that things new from the store is better than buying it used from someone else. We believe that if it was easier for people to treat the things they own better, keeping them maintained and in mint condition, this perception would change. We started Newcycle on an ambition to kickstart a circular revolution in retail and consumerism. The way we exploit our planet’s resources needs to change. The way we buy things needs to change. And the way we own things needs to change. With the Newcycle app, consumers can create an inventory of everything they own, to get an overview of their products. It's free to use the app, and we offer additional paid services, like reselling their used items. By giving consumers access to digital twins of everything they own, we make it easier for our users to maintain, repair, refine, buy and sell their products, regardless of whether they are the 1st, 2nd or 8th owner of a product. In the app The Newcycle app connects the owner of a product with the retailer who sold it and the producer who made it, for the entire life span of the product, benefiting both the consumers and the producers of the products. The positive result is longer use of the products and in the end recycling. We won’t change the world all by ourselves, but looking back ten, twenty or forty years from now, we’ll see that our role was a central one. And you can join our team, and help lay the foundation for a circular future. OceanTherm AS

In recent years we have witnessed intense tropical storms, costing thousands of lives, as well as massive destructions. The total estimated cost for damage caused by hurricanes in 2017, is calculated at $250 billion. Also in 2018, we have seen hurricanes causing catastrophic damage and human tragedies. Tropical hurricanes are generated when masses of cold and warm air collide. And the sea surface temperature is above 26.5°C. We are doing research and development to cool the sea surface temperature by exploiting colder water deeper down in the sea. This will help us cope with climate change. The companyOceanTherm AS was founded in 2017 and is engaged in the research and development of methods and technologies preventing tropical storms from becoming devastating. OceanTerm AS also delivers maritime counseling. The challenge Many people have tried to find ways of preventing hurricanes before they make landfall, resulting in the loss of human lives. In recent years we have witnessed intense tropical storms, costing thousands of lives, as well as massive destructions. For example: in 2005, hurricane Katrina killed more than 1,800 people and caused damage of $ 90 billion. In 2016, hurricane Matthew swept across Haiti, taking 852 lives and destroying many towns on the island. The total estimated cost for damage caused by hurricanes in 2017, is calculated at $250 billion. Tropical hurricanes are generated when masses of cold and warm air collide. Another essential factor is that the sea surface temperature is above 26.5°C. Climate change is causing sea surface temperatures to increase. In the case of hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria that occurred between August and September 2017, sea surface temperatures were measured as high as 32°C. The big questionIs it possible to cool the sea surface to below 26.5°C by exploiting colder water from deeper in the water column? The answer is yes, we have the methods and the technology.CooperationOceanTherm AS is located in Horten (Norway) and collaborates with SINTEF Ocean AS in Trondheim and SILICIA in Horten.FundingInnovation Norway and the Research Council of Norway are supporting the research program.

Waybiller

Waybiller provides digital waybill solutions for logistics companies, making freight truly paperless. The software allows companies to switch from paper waybills to e-waybills, which results in lower costs and greater transparency. Founded in 2017, Waybiller was a brainchild of a team of developers and business consultants at Thorgate. After creating three very successful waybill softwares for the forestry industry, Waybiller was created as a spin-off to make the logistics industry paperless!

Kyoto Group AS

At Kyoto we work to decarbonise industrial energy consumption by increasing the share of renewable energy sources used to generate industrial process heat. Kyoto Group AS was founded in 2018, and consists of 9 skilled full time employees, plus a handful of great helpers. Our largest investors are solid and forward leaning industry leaders in the green energy transition: Hydro Energi Invest AS, Kongsberg Innovasjon AS, and Valinor AS.

Tekslo Seafood

Where The Atlantic Ocean meets the Northern Sea, and along the coast of Norway, lies an under-used and fairly unknown natural resource. Our forefathers sustained themselves from the ocean for thousands of years, and for them seaweed was a vital source of vitamins and minerals. All of us that started Tekslo were raised by the ocean, and together we share a dream of creating a more sustainable Earth and reverse the trends on food and health – as we introduce seaweed to the world. Our harvesting areas are located in the sea close to Tekslo lighthouse, west of the island Tofterøy on Sotra. With its perfect currents, clean, clear and high-nutrient water, no fish farming or other pollutants, it is an optimal site for finding high quality seaweed! We harvest wild seaweed by hand from reefs, rocks and islets close to the coast. This allows us to only and carefully collect the best quality. We then dry the seaweed in our custom-designed room, which is built inside a traditional boathouse.

Various activities can lead to uneven sun exposure of the body and the sensor can therefore be attached where you are most vulnerable. Advanced algorithms mimic the human skin’s response curve to varying UV intensity for state of the art accuracy. SunSense technology puts you in control of your sun exposure in a reliable and easy way It measures how much sun exposure you’re getting, regardless of the season, cloud cover, altitude, ozone holes, time or geographic location, and will not be tricked by a cooling breeze or reflections from the snow or water. Intelligent power saving features minimise power consumption, shuts the device off automatically after use, and allows it to hibernate till next summer with virtually no battery drain. A simple tap to the casing will wake it up again.

B'ZEOS

B’ZEOS develops novel, flexible, and home-compostable films based on seaweed extracts which can replace conventional and bio-based single-use plastic films in food-contact applications. B’ZEOS’ solution will contribute to reduce the use of non- or hardly recyclable plastic materials for single-use food packaging, thus reducing CO2 emissions. We are a team of 8 people with complementary backgrounds. One engineer in environment, two material scientists, one graphic designer, one supply chain analyst, one quality engineer advisor, one PR and marketing advisor and one CFO advisor.   Each of us are concerned by environmental issues and wanted to contribute to make a change.   We have joined this project because we are all fed up with:    - Contamination of world's drinking water with plastic fibres   - Seeing marine animals dying because of our plastic trash   - Increase of plastic packaging around fresh aliments   - Increase in plastic debris along the coast   - Both burning plastic and sending plastic to landfills   - Finding plastic while making with our kids sand castles   - Contamination with the chemicals in plastic. These chemicals are said to cause obesity, on-set puberty, and even cancer.   - Direct contamination of our kids by chewing various objects in plastic.   - Being exposed to plastic every single day and not having the chance to choose an alternative   We, at B’ZEOS and as consumers, believe in a sustainable alternative to current plastic and we have been working on the elaboration of a sustainable alternative without forcing the consumer to change dramatically his habits.
