ABchar is developing a new type of pyrolysis reactor, affordable heating and the possibility of small-scale biochar production, adapted to agriculture.. This will help achieve the goal of a 40% reduction in emissions from the agricultural sector. What is pyrolysis? Simply put, this is the heating of an organic material without access to oxygen. This leads to a series of reactions that ultimately result in 3 main products; biochar, oil and gas. We want to utilize the biochar in this process. The oil and gas will be burned and the heat from this will be used to dry grain, heat barns, greenhouses, residential buildings and other things that need heat on a farm. Why pyrolysis and biochar? Plants absorb CO2 from the air around us through photosynthesis. They are actually extremely good at this too. The residual product is mainly oxygen and the plant material. The great thing about pyrolysis is that we are able to separate water, oxygen and hydrogen from the plant material and we are left with more or less pure carbon 80% +. This is carbon from the air! If we take this coal and spread it on our agricultural land, it will be stored there for up to 1000 years and perhaps longer. In some cases, the soil will become more fertile and less vulnerable to periods of too much or too little water.

We know how to optimise the production process and properties of titania nanoparticles. After successfully developing and commercialising a series of photocatalytic surface treatment products (www.joma-int.com), we are directing our R&D efforts towards a new area; the use of titania as anode-material in Lithium-ion batteries (LIB). A battery with our material on the anode will charge faster, last longer, be safer and tolerate temperature variation better than conventional batteries which have graphite on the anode, and outcompete LTO-batteries on capacity. The development work takes place in our in-house laboratory in Bergen, where our dedicated team (Hjørdis, Marthe, Rob, Anders) play around with titania, giving life to innovative solutions.

Oncoinvent AS is a privately held Norwegian company established in 2010. The company is committed to developing new innovative products to provide better treatment options to cancer patients. The innovations being developed by Oncoinvent AS are a result of the extensive experience with the development of radionuclide-based cancer treatments of two of the founders, Dr. Roy H. Larsen and Professor of clinical oncology Øyvind S. Bruland. Larsen and Bruland are the inventors of the first FDA and EMA-approved alpha-emitting pharmaceutical product Xofigo® (Bayer AG), as well as of the beta-emitting radio-immunotherapeutic product candidate Betalutin® (Nordic Nanovector ASA). Oncoinvent's lead product candidate, Radspherin®, is a novel alpha-emitting radioactive microsphere designed for the treatment of metastatic cancers in body cavities. Radspherin® has been shown to cause a significant reduction in tumor cell growth. It is anticipated that the product can potentially treat several forms of metastatic cancer. The first clinical indication for Radspherin® will be the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis. Clinical development will be conducted in collaboration with European and American clinical research centers.
