Respire is a Norwegian venture studio focused on building companies within the energy transition and sustainability. We work hands-on from early problem exploration through company formation and early growth, typically partnering closely with founders as active co-builders. Our team brings experience from energy, industry, startups, and venture building, and we believe a systematic approach gives better odds in complex, capital-intensive domains. We build a small number of ventures at a time and take a long-term view. Respire contributes sector insight, structured venture development, access to relevant networks, and in-house capacity for early MVP development. We’re based at RE Gründerhus in Asker, a hub for sustainable innovation, and are now scaling the studio.

We make fisheries much more efficient at filling their quotas, by using big (open) data, modern web technology and machine learning; resulting in less diesel, time at sea, fish poaching/bicatch and seabed contact. It started with gathering a crew of hackers and engineers for NORA's FishAI competition the summer 2022, which we won, then we set up the company to revolutionise fishery for the better. Today we are working close with our paying customers, to become a must-have tool on any vessel!

We are developing a platform to help owners of renewable power plants and their service providers gaining access to the right information at the right time, enabling the right decisions. In order to achieve this we deconstruct the hundreds of documents describing each plant into snippets of information in accordance with our domain-driven data model. In the next 7 years, the world needs to invest almost twice what has been invested into renewable energy generation in the last 20 years. At the same time subsidies are being rolled back, increasing the need to for ensuring that projected ROI is not compromised by underperformance of the investments (i.e. plants). We have lived the pain, and know that NOW is the time to transform the way commercial management of renewable energy plants is being done.

Cavai AS was founded in December 2017 with the goal of revolutionizing online advertising. User experiences have largely been neglected on the web, and Cavai saw early on that chatbot technology, which has initially been used in customer service, could be a wonderfully good advertising product. Usually, chatbot technology is used as customer service on its own website, while Cavai's platform is built to be able to use chatbot technology on millions of websites for contextual advertising. The team today consists of 15 people, and the product has been launched in Norway, Finland, Sweden and the UK with 50 paying customers. Customers are very pleased and report that Cavai's technology is having a very good effect on completed advertising campaigns. Cavai will have its first month of positive operating results in October and looks to have sales of around 3 million in 2019. Next year will be a big growth year, where we have budgeted with a turnover of NOK 41 million. This growth has also been discussed by Finansavisen, where as part of Finansavisen's web-TV series "Vext", Cavai filmed his meeting with advertising legend Sir Marting Sorell in London.
