NitroVolt is decarbonizing nitrogen-based fertilizer production and making the agricultural sector more resilient with a novel production process. Commercial ammonia production supports 40-50% of the agricultural industry as a nitrogen-based fertilizer. But current ammonia production is not sustainable, releasing over 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions during production facilities and further emissions during transportation to the end user, farmers. NitroVolt offers a local ammonia production solution that gives farmers the ability to produce their own nitrogen-based fertilizer. The only inputs required by NitroVolt’s container-sized systems are air, water, and electricity, enabling production of sustainable ammonia directly at farms. NitroVolt’s patented electrochemical Nitrolyzer unit can make ammonia on-demand with intermittent renewable energy sources. With their technology, NitroVolt aims to decarbonize nitrogen-based fertilizer production one farm at a time, cut the logistic costs of distributing fertilizer, and make the agricultural sector more resilient to external factors.

In the European Union alone, more than 1.5 million paint buckets are discarded daily, constituting a disposal of 340 tons of single-use plastic that is incinerated each day. Starting from early 2023 (2025 in Denmark and Slovenia), manufacturers are obligated to cover the disposal costs of their packaging based on sustainability criteria. In Denmark, this translates to an estimated 15% fee on paint buckets. Furthermore, the conventional round shape of packaging has proven suboptimal for logistics and transportation. Beyond its environmental impact, the traditional paint bucket poses challenges for professional painters. These challenges encompass ergonomic issues during handling, such as the strain of lifting two buckets simultaneously, which exceeds recommended weight limits according to the Working Environment Authority. Painters also find themselves in awkward positions when pouring paint into a roller bucket for wall application. The demanding physical nature of the painting profession in Denmark results in accelerated fatigue and early retirement for painters. Additionally, issues like lid leakage due to dried paint and the use of fragile, porous plastic contribute to unexpected spills, particularly during abrupt vehicle stops. Our innovative solution involves a cardboard box housing two patent-pending plastic bags, each containing 5 liters of paint. This packaging not only enhances the workflow for professional painters but also reduces costs and lowers carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions by approximately 65% per unit. The box's design facilitates easy and ergonomic transportation, allowing for a 45% increase in units per pallet. The box is opened, and one of the bags is inserted into a standard roller bucket used by painters. The bag effortlessly opens and seamlessly fits into the roller bucket, wrapping around the edges, and enabling the painter to begin work promptly. This functionality is made possible through an innovative patented design and specific plastic welding techniques.

Fischer Lighting is a sustainable front-runner who has developed a unique circular business model where waste is transformed into new beautiful lamps that make buildings more sustainable and people healthier. In 2023, Fischer Lighting saved more than 53 tons of discarded lamps from being thrown away, and with the concepts ReUse, ReDesign, and ReCreate, unique lighting solutions are created in a beautiful and industrial design that meets all the requirements of a new lighting fixture. In addition to environmental sustainability, social sustainability is also an important part of the concept. Therefore, all the old lamps are separated and assembled by people on the edge of the labor market in Denmark. GLYON is developing a CO₂-powered textile-to-textile recycling technology to help brands, fiber producers, and recyclers solve the growing textile waste crisis with a breakthrough chemical recycling process that turns waste into virgin-quality raw materials for new fibers—without fossil fuels. We address the massive problem of textile waste, a global crisis where over 92 million tonnes of textile waste are discarded each year—most of it ending up in landfills or incinerated. This contributes to major pollution issues but also forces the textile industry to continue its dependence on virgin fossil-based materials. Our solution targets fiber producers, brands, and recyclers who need circular raw material solutions. Our CO₂-based chemical recycling process breaks down polyester textiles into building blocks and leaves other fibers like cotton intact. Both PET building blocks and cotton can be used to produce new, high-quality fibers without the need for virgin oil and reducing water consumption and CO₂ emissions.
