30+ million tons of commodity flows. An international network of clients. And a freight intelligence platform built to see opportunities in the market.

At Copenhagen Merchants Group, we are looking for a Freight Broker who can bring these strengths together and turn commercial opportunities into business.

This is a role for someone who enjoys building relationships, developing new business and finding opportunities where others might not immediately see them. Someone who combines the instincts of a broker with the curiosity to explore how data and technology can make a good broker even better.

Why this role exists

Every year, Copenhagen Merchants Group is involved in more than 30 million tonnes of commodity business across our brokerage and terminal activities.

Behind these volumes is an extensive network of commodity traders, cargo owners, shipping professionals and market relationships. Combined with the freight intelligence capabilities of CM Navigator, this provides a strong foundation for developing our freight brokerage activities.

We want to build on that foundation.

Working alongside our commodity brokers, CM Navigator and our colleagues across the Group, you will help identify freight opportunities, develop new client relationships and expand our presence within grains and other dry bulk commodities.

The ambition is straightforward: to build a successful freight brokerage business by combining sound commercial judgement, strong relationships and better use of the information already available to us.

The role

You will have considerable room to shape your own business, while benefiting from the relationships, market knowledge and capabilities of an established international group.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing freight business in close collaboration with our commodity brokers, identifying opportunities arising from existing trading relationships and commodity flows.

  • Turning enquiries into fixtures, including freight requests from CM Navigator's international client base.

  • Building your own portfolio of cargo owners and operators, developing new business within grains and other dry bulk commodities.

  • Making intelligent use of data, drawing on CM Navigator's freight intelligence, market information and digital tools to support your commercial decisions.

  • Contributing market insight to CM Navigator's freight research team, helping ensure that its freight rates and market intelligence remain commercially relevant.

  • Working across the Group, building strong relationships with colleagues in commodity brokerage, Navi Merchants and other CM businesses to identify opportunities and make the most of our combined capabilities.

We believe that good brokerage is built on relationships, judgement, persistence and timing. Technology will not replace those qualities. But used well, it can make them considerably more powerful.

Who we are looking for

You already know the dry bulk freight market and have demonstrated that you can develop business rather than simply manage what comes your way.

Ideally, you bring 2–7 years of experience in freight brokerage - dry bulk, along with a solid understanding of the commercial dynamics between cargo owners, operators and the wider shipping market.

Beyond that, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has a natural commercial drive and enjoys the challenge of winning new business.

  • Takes ownership, follows through and knows that relationships are built over time.

  • Is curious, resourceful and quick to recognise commercial opportunities.

  • Is comfortable working with technology and interested in how data and AI can support better commercial decisions.

  • Builds trust easily, both with clients and colleagues.

  • Keeps a clear head when markets move quickly and circumstances change.

  • Communicates confidently and fluently in English.

We are less concerned about your educational background than your experience, judgement and appetite for building business.

What you can expect

You will become part of Copenhagen Merchants Group, an international, family-owned business with activities across commodity brokerage, shipping, logistics, terminals and technology.

You will have the opportunity to develop freight brokerage activities with the backing of an established commercial network, access to substantial commodity flows and the analytical capabilities of CM Navigator.

At the same time, we expect you to bring your own initiative, relationships and ideas to the table.

This is not a role where business simply arrives at your desk. But neither is it one where you have to build everything from scratch.

You will be based in Copenhagen, with approximately 20–30 travel days annually to visit clients, meet colleagues and participate in relevant industry events.

Interested?

Upload your CV and a short video introduction (max. 60 seconds). Tell us what makes you curious about Copenhagen Merchants Group, what drives you as a broker, and why you believe there might be a Merchanteer in you.

We look forward to getting to know you.

Working at
CM Navigator A/S

CM Navigator A/S – part of Copenhagen Merchants Group - is the company behind the digital platform for market intelligence and decision support in the agri-commodity and freight sectors – CM Navigator. Founded by Copenhagen Merchants Group, CM Navigator was initially developed in-house (starting around 2018) to aggregate the wealth of tacit market knowledge held by the group’s brokers and shipping experts. It was subsequently launched as a commercial SaaS platform in 2022 and later incorporated as an independent company in 2023 (while remaining majority-owned by CM Group). What it offers: CM Navigator provides real-time data and analytics tools to track commodity markets and logistics: • Live Prices & Global Benchmarks: Users get daily updated prices from major export regions (North America, South America, Europe, Black Sea, Australia, etc.) and a global CFR price matrix covering 600+ destinations, allowing easy comparison of origin competitiveness. This helps traders see, for example, how US corn fob prices plus freight compare to Brazilian corn into a given import market. • Freight Forecasting: The platform includes advanced freight tools that let users search among 250,000+ bulk freight routes with up to 12-month forward curves. This essentially functions as an instant freight rate calculator: a trader can input a specific load port and discharge port (or even a combination for multi-leg trades) and get current freight cost estimates and future rates. Such capability, drawn from Navi Merchants’ data, simplifies evaluating the delivered cost of commodities. • Supply/Demand & Trade Flows: CM Navigator continuously updates global supply and demand balances for key crops, and tracks trade flows. It integrates official data with on-the-ground insights (e.g., port line-up information) to give an up-to-date picture of export/import volumes and stock levels. This dynamic data can alert users to changes (such as a sudden surge in Ukrainian wheat exports or a drought cutting Argentine soy supply) much faster than traditional reports. • News & Insights: The platform delivers relevant news flashes and in-house analysis. For instance, it might highlight policy changes, weather events, or logistical issues affecting markets, along with commentary from CM’s analysts. Users also receive reports like grain export summaries or freight market outlooks, helping them stay ahead in volatile markets. Strategic purpose: The creation of CM Navigator reflects the group’s goal to “empower traders of all sizes in all countries” by democratizing access to high-quality market data. It takes the tacit knowledge that Copenhagen Merchants accumulated (through decades of brokerage and logistics operations) and scales it via technology. Internally, the platform ensures CM’s own teams and key clients operate with the same up-to-date information. Externally, it has become a new revenue stream and value proposition, attracting subscribers from the wider industry. By providing transparency and decision-support, CM Navigator strengthens Copenhagen Merchants Group’s role as an information broker. Its strategic goal is to be the go-to platform for anyone looking for integrated data on grains and freight, thereby enhancing market efficiency and extending the group’s influence in the digital domain.
