Senior Backend Engineer

We are building the decision layer for autonomous agents orchestrating hardware operations across large-scale infrastructure systems.

Our first vertical is EV charging networks — an industry that is operationally complex, fragmented, and still heavily dependent on manual processes. At Lumina, we are building systems that can understand, decide and act on operational data in real time.

Today, operators use Lumina to configure event triggers, alerts, workflows and automated actions across charging infrastructure. Our platform continuously monitors hardware, identifies issues, and initiates resolution flows using AI, automation and machine learning systems.

We are already live in production and operate internationally with customers across seven countries. While EV charging is our first market, the underlying system is data-agnostic and designed to extend into broader infrastructure operations.

The role

We are looking for a strong backend engineer to help build the systems powering Lumina’s operational intelligence platform.

You will work closely with founders and own foundational backend systems that need to operate reliably under real-world conditions.

This is a high-ownership role for someone who enjoys difficult systems problems, moves quickly, and wants to shape both architecture and product direction from an early stage.

You will work on problems such as:

  • Building resilient ingestion systems across APIs, databases and infrastructure systems

  • Designing reliable event processing and workflow execution with strong guarantees around retries, durability and observability

  • Safely executing AI-generated operational logic in isolated environments

  • Designing secure multi-tenant systems and infrastructure boundaries

  • Building backend systems that support autonomous workflows operating on real-world hardware infrastructure

Your work will directly shape the core backend foundation of the company.

What we are looking for

We care more about capability, ownership and learning speed than credentials.

You are likely someone who:

  • Learns quickly and executes with urgency

  • Maintains high standards and strong engineering judgment

  • Is highly autonomous and comfortable operating in an evolving environment

  • Enjoys solving difficult backend and systems problems

  • Thinks pragmatically and ships without compromising reliability

  • You care about building things that work in production, not just prototypes.

Why join Lumina?

This role is for someone who wants unusually high ownership and real technical responsibility early.

At Lumina, you will:

  • Work directly with founders and have meaningful influence on technical direction

  • Help shape the architecture and engineering culture from an early stage

  • Solve hard backend, reliability and infrastructure problems with real-world consequences

  • Move fast, ship often, and see the direct impact of your work

We offer competitive startup compensation and meaningful equity aligned with long-term contribution and company growth.

Working setup

This role is based in Copenhagen and requires working on-site with the team.

We work closely across founders, product and customers, and believe speed, context and collaboration matter at this stage of the company. This is not a remote or hybrid role.

Working at
Lumina

We've built Charger Health, an AI-powered Operations & Maintenance platform for EV charging networks. Our software automatically identifies issues and initiates resolution flows in real-time. This is done through combination of pattern recognition, machine learning models and an agentic infrastructure. In addition, our solution automatically creates, updates and closes tickets, optimizing the throughput of operations teams. Lastly, intelligent alerts reveal hidden issues and enables proactive remote handling. This has reduced the operational resources required to manage the network, enabling operations teams to more than double their output, while also improving key performance metrics such as uptime and charging success rate.
