Would you like to make a difference for people with disabilities, while helping build a tech startup from the ground up?
TalkiTale is looking for a Technical Co-founder to join at the earliest stage and help build the company, product, and technology foundation.
Note: The role is initially 100% equity-based, with salary once funding and/or revenue are obtained. Part-time engagement is possible in the initial phase. For the right person, this is a true co-founder opportunity with a substantial, double-digit equity stake, depending on experience, commitment, timing, and agreed responsibilities.
TalkiTale is a Danish startup supported by the Innovation Fund Denmark through the Innofounder programme. We develop mobile applications that can help children and adults with limited or absent speech due to disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism and cerebral palsy. Our first products include a sign-recognition app designed to recognize both standard signs and users’ personal or approximate signs, as well as an educational game for learning signs.
The company is currently in an early but active product-building phase, where the product concepts and technology have been through early validation (including an early-access app in App Store), but significant refinement and development work remains.
As Technical Co-founder, you would help shape and build the core technology behind TalkiTale, and work closely with the founder on both product and engineering. You will help develop TalkiTale's products into robust applications ready for use by children and adults with disabilities as well as their caregivers.
This role is especially relevant for someone who enjoys solving genuinely difficult computational problems. You should be interested in algorithmic development and data modelling, but at the same time know how to turn research-level prototypes into a real product that can be used by real users: with robustness, performance, maintainability, user experience, and privacy and security in mind.
Responsibilities may include:
Developing and implementing novel algorithms for dealing with complex and noisy data, where there is no off-the-shelf solution
Turning research ideas into practical, testable, production-ready implementations
Designing and maintaining the architecture of mobile and backend systems
Defining the technical roadmap
Defining the company's strategy and making business decisions together with the founder
Making pragmatic engineering decisions in an early-stage startup environment
Eventually helping hire and lead a technical team
We are primarily looking for evidence that you can tackle difficult computational problems where no "off-the-shelf" solutions exist, as well as evidence that you can produce production-ready code.
Your educational background may be in computer science, mathematics, physics or a similar quantitative field, and your experience may be for example from research, industry, open-source work, or competitions.
You may be a strong fit if you:
Enjoy solving hard computational problems
Are genuinely motivated to build a company where social impact and long-term value are the main drivers.
Have very strong analytical skills and a quantitative background where you are comfortable working with noisy real-world data
Have significant coding experience
Can build reliable software, not just prototypes
Can work independently and take ownership
Want to be a true co-founder, with both technical and company-building responsibility
Can thrive with uncertainty and freedom
Believe that trust, honesty, and strong working relationships are the foundation of successful collaboration
Relevant experience could include one or more of the following:
Algorithms, data structures, optimization and probabilistic modelling
Time-series analysis, signal processing, pattern recognition, computer vision
Backend development, databases, infrastructure, or developer tooling
Applied research that has been turned into usable software
Experience building production-ready systems used by real people
The opportunity to make a real difference for people with communication disabilities
The opportunity to build a tech company from the ground up together with a passionate founder
Co-ownership through substantial (double-digit) equity, with the exact level depending on experience, commitment, timing and agreed responsibilities
A planned path to salary as we pursue our next funding milestones
Significant influence on the company’s strategy, product and the building of a team
A flexible and meaningful working life, with respect for your free time and family life
Office in Aarhus, with the possibility of working remotely
This job comes with several perks and benefits
