Tectonicus is the game where great stories of the past come to light, while you get to uncover – and interpret – what happened. Live through the clashes of civilizations that shape the world, and write history as you play.
Tectonicus synthesizes the mechanics of turn-based strategy games with the history of the Vikings. To succeed, you are to use strategic thinking when placing heroes, commanders, and units on the board, as well as building synergic decks that emphasize each faction’s unique strengths.
Apart from online and local PvP battles, Tectonicus will be featuring a full-scale story mode. The player will be called to restore the historical truth lost in contradicting accounts and theories, rewritten history, and scholars’ disputes, by reincarnating significant battles and living through them as warlords, across centuries.
You will be joining the Art Department, which is responsible for creating visual assets for the game in the startup. It is a group of passionate creatives that range from VFX, technical, UI, 2D, and 3D artists to animators.
You will be key in developing, picking, and choosing tasks from the Trello board. You can prioritize what aligns with your strengths and interests. We encourage you to challenge yourself and take on tasks that may be outside of your comfort zone.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities between the Art Director and Vice/co-Art Lead are to manage our small art team, facilitate art meetings, set art goals and tasks with the coordination of the Producer, Historians, and Game Director. The artists will make artistic visuals based on historical accuracy, such as 3D objects, animations, and illustrations of historical characters, gameplay UI, environments, narrative assets, and more.
You will organize, plan, and run one weekly art meeting. Additionally, you will be required to go to our bi-weekly (once every two weeks) leads meeting to communicate with the other teams about the game, your team, and the company goals and struggles.
Your duties:
Facilitate a creative environment, full of collaboration and friendly communication
Communicate with other departments to provide artists with the most up-to-date information and provide feedback on artists' work
Help organize and update behind-the-scenes as the company moves to a more intuitive management format
Developing the production schedule with respect to deadlines
Maintain concise documentation for toolsets that the team can rely on
Management and follow-up of our external partners
Troubleshoot tool implementations and suggest workflow improvements to increase the efficiency and creativity of the team
Aim to facilitate consistency in art style
You have either graduated from or are currently pursuing studies in game art, digital illustration, or a related field, with a strong foundation in creating visually engaging assets, understanding design principles, and translating creative ideas into high-quality artwork.
You are a problem-solver at heart, capable of adapting your skills to meet the needs of the project and enhancing the visual experience to showcase our game’s unique features in ways that captivate players.
You are also a collaborative team player who thrives in a multidisciplinary and diverse environment. Our team includes game developers, narrative designers, historians, and business developers, so being able to bridge diverse expertise and contribute your unique perspective is essential.
It’s a bonus if you’re eager to get involved in cross-functional projects, such as collaborating on promotional materials, organizing visual showcases, or participating in events to present the game. As an indie studio dedicated to crafting unique gaming experiences, an interest in or knowledge of indie games and their artistic processes is highly advantageous.
