athme is building a category-defining app for real-world sports and social connection. Our platform makes it easy to discover activities, join games, and build communities through movement. We are creating a product with the potential to change how people connect, stay active, and build meaningful relationships through sport.

We are not just looking for another employee. We are looking for a Founding Engineer. We need a technical powerhouse to join our core team and help us scale our vision from the ground up.

The Role

As a Founding Engineer, you will be a critical part of athme's technical backbone. You will do a lot more than write code. You will work directly with our CTO to make foundational architecture decisions and shape our engineering culture.

This is a zero-to-one role. You need to combine relentless technical execution with deep product thinking and the foresight to build scalable systems in a fast-paced environment. You will have a direct impact on the trajectory of the company, and your rewards will reflect that level of commitment.

What You Will Do

• Partner with the CTO: Work closely with our technical leadership to architect and scale the platform.

• Own Critical Areas: Take deep, end-to-end ownership over specific core products, features, and segments of the codebase within the athme ecosystem.

• Ship High-Impact Product: Develop high-quality mobile experiences using React Native, and build robust backend services, APIs, and business logic using Node.js.

• Architect for Scale: Design, manage, and optimize data models and application performance using MongoDB, ensuring our systems are ready for rapid user growth.

• Drive Product Vision: Collaborate with the founders to translate strategic vision into shipped features. Balance speed to market with technical debt and code quality.

• Set the Standard: Establish development workflows and system reliability standards, helping lay the groundwork for the engineering team we will build around you.

What We Are Looking For

• A Builder’s Mindset: Mid to senior-level full stack experience with a proven track record of shipping features independently and with high attention to quality.

• Technical Mastery: Deep, hands-on expertise with React Native, Node.js, and MongoDB. Solid understanding of API design, system architecture, and scalable databases.

• Founder Mentality: You thrive in ambiguity, move with urgency, and possess a high risk tolerance. You care just as much about the business and user experience as you do about the code.

• Strategic Pragmatism: The ability to balance speed (getting the product to users) with quality (building a stable foundation).

• Bonus Points: Previous startup or founding experience, or experience building mobile-first consumer products, social networks, or marketplace platforms.
