Are you eager to join an agile development company with no B.S. and no bureaucracy? Do you thrive in a trust-based, transparent startup-like environment where you are encouraged to have your say?
At Geniebelt, our mission is to transform construction by accelerating repetitive building. We believe construction shouldn’t be reinvented with every project. Instead, we help builders move from manual, one-off projects to digital, repeatable workflows that create consistency and scale. Our platform processes more than 150,000 weekly updates for thousands of active users worldwide.
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer who will also take ownership of how our infrastructure evolves.
Backend development will be your primary focus. On the DevOps side, the goal is not to run infrastructure manually, but to simplify, automate, and outsource wherever possible. You will help shape a lean, reliable platform setup where operational overhead stays minimal and developers can focus on building product.
Your priority is keeping the engine running. When the infrastructure is stable and updated, you will shift your focus to evolving our backend systems.
1. DevOps & Infrastructure (Primary Focus)
You will initially spend 30–50% of your time on DevOps and infrastructure. The goal is not to increase this workload, but to reduce it over time by simplifying, automating, and outsourcing wherever possible.
System Reliability: Fix issues immediately if they impact customers or team velocity.
Maintenance: Maintain and update current infrastructure while automating more workflows.
Cloud Engineering: Own the AWS setup and Kubernetes (K8s) environment.
Tooling: Manage Terraform, Jsonnet, ArgoCD, and CI/CD via GitHub Actions.
Observability: Monitor system health using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Tempo.
Data Support: Provide basic administration for Databricks/Datamart and improve Superset dashboards.
2. Backend Engineering
This is where you will make the largest impact on the product and our customers’ daily work.
Feature Development: Design and build reliable backend functionality in Ruby on Rails.
API Design: Maintain APIs consumed by web and mobile clients.
Technical Ownership: Take stewardship of core platform domains, focusing on long-term maintainability rather than just closing tickets.
Quality: Write clean, testable code and perform root-cause analysis for bugs.
Experience: At least 5 years of relevant work experience
Cloud engineering: Essential experience in DevOps and cloud engineering.
Infrastructure Mastery: Essential experience with AWS and K8s.
Backend Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL.
The Toolbox: Proficiency in Linux, Docker, and Git.
Systems Thinking: You understand trade-offs between consistency, availability, and performance.
Collaboration: Basic literacy in React and TypeScript to work effectively with frontend peers.
Communication: Fluent in English with the ability to share knowledge and support the team.
