Participant Experience Design (Operations)

Salary Unpaid

What is RoyalHacks?

RoyalHacks is Denmark's first national, cross-university student hackathon — a weekend where students across IT, design, engineering, and business team up for 24 hours of rapid, creative problem-solving.

We're building a new national student tech community — multidisciplinary, beginner-friendly, and wildly collaborative.

Operations (Participant Experience Design)

The Operations team is the soul of the hackathon. We design the participant experience from first touchpoint to final demo — making sure RoyalHacks feels clear, exciting, and genuinely valuable for everyone who attends.

If you've ever thought "this event could be so much better if someone just..." — this is the team where you make that happen.

What the Operations team does

  • Design the end-to-end participant journey (what happens, when, and why)

  • Organize workshops, talks, and mentorship sessions

  • Recruit and coordinate mentors, judges, and speakers

  • Plan onboarding so nobody feels lost

  • Structure schedule flow and handoffs between moments (talks, hacking, meals, demos)

  • Work with Logistics, Marketing, and Sponsorships to align the full experience

Who we're looking for

We're hiring based on motivation and way of thinking — not credentials.

You'll likely thrive here if you:

  • Think in systems: clarity, edge cases, "where will first-timers get confused?"

  • Are empathetic and organized

  • Feel comfortable working in a dynamic environments and building the plane while it takes off

  • Communicate clearly and enjoy collaborating across disciplines

  • Have interest in event design, education, UX, service design, or community-building

  • Like making structure that enables other people to do great work

No hackathon or event experience required — just curiosity and initiative.

What you'll gain

  • Hands-on event operations and people management experience

  • Leadership growth (you'll take real ownership over meaningful parts of the event)

  • Access to an inspiring network of industry mentors, sponsors, and the Danish student tech ecosystem

  • Portfolio-worthy real-world experience in experience design

  • Official reference letter to support your goals

  • A close-knit team that thrives on creativity and community

Time & place

  • Time commitment: ~3–5 hours/week (hybrid: remote work + in-person team meetups in Copenhagen)

  • Event date: Spring 2026
