Intern Legal & Economics at PayTjek

Salary Unpaid

Want to help revolutionize payroll verification?

PayTjek is an AI-driven startup helping employees ensure they get the salary they're entitled to — with just one click. Users simply upload their payslip, and our AI automatically checks for errors and discrepancies. We're tackling a massive problem by automating payroll verification and making salary expertise accessible to everyone.

About the Role

We're looking for a passionate Legal & Economics Intern to help bridge the gap between complex Danish labor law and our AI verification platform. You'll be working at the intersection of law, economics, and technology — helping us understand, categorize, and digitize the intricate world of Danish overenskomster and payroll calculations. We don't expect you to know everything on day one; a strong willingness to learn and grow is what matters most.

You'll be working on:

  • Analyzing and categorizing Danish overenskomster (collective agreements) for AI training data

  • Validating payroll calculations and identifying common error patterns across different sectors

  • Researching labor law hierarchies and rule precedence (state vs. union vs. company level)

  • Helping design compliance frameworks for GDPR and financial data protection

  • Collaborating with our AI team to translate legal concepts into machine-readable formats

  • Testing and validating our Analysis Engine's legal reasoning and explanations

  • Supporting stakeholder communication with unions, healthcare organizations, and legal entities

What We're Looking For

  • Background or strong interest in labor law, employment law, or economics

  • Understanding of Danish work culture and potentially overenskomster (or eager to learn)

  • Experience with payroll systems, accounting, or financial analysis (bonus)

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Interest in legal tech or AI applications in legal/financial domains

  • Danish language skills (essential for reading overenskomster)

As a person, you:

  • Take ownership of your work

  • Are eager to learn and grow

  • Are passionate about worker rights and fair compensation

  • Are comfortable working with both traditional legal documents and cutting-edge AI technology

  • Can translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable insights

What You'll Get

  • Be part of shaping PayTjek's product from early stage toward first launch

  • Work directly with real user feedback and real-world legal challenges

  • Flexible hours and remote work options

  • Opportunity for a full-time role after the internship

  • Unique experience bridging law, economics, and AI technology

You'll be joining us at an exciting stage, helping transform PayTjek from early concept into a product people love. We are pre-MVP and moving quickly toward our first release — there's plenty of room to strengthen our legal foundation: building our overenskomst knowledge base, ensuring compliance frameworks, and validating AI reasoning against real legal requirements.

We keep things relaxed and collaborative, celebrating small wins together at the end of the week. As we grow and reach more users, we aim to expand from a lean, part-time setup into a full-time team.

We value open communication and an active feedback culture, because learning and improving is part of our DNA. Along the way, you'll gain practical experience with legal tech, AI applications in law, and the impact of technology in ensuring worker rights.

Working at
PayTjek

PayTjek is developing an AI-powered payroll verification platform that helps employees detect and resolve salary discrepancies through automated collective agreement analysis and intelligent error detection. Payroll errors are a widespread and costly problem, with billions lost each year because employees never uncover them. Payslips are often complex and difficult to understand without specialist knowledge of collective agreements and labor laws — expertise usually reserved for lawyers, union representatives, and HR professionals. This leaves everyday workers, from healthcare staff to teachers, at risk of losing money they are rightfully owed. PayTjek democratizes payroll expertise. Employees simply upload their payslip, and our AI analyzes salary data, cross-references it with relevant collective agreements, checks against work schedules and contracts, and flags discrepancies or missing payments. The results are delivered in clear, plain language, giving workers both understanding and actionable next steps. Our technology is built to interpret even the most complex Danish labor agreements, with a roadmap to expand across European markets. We are driven by a strong sense of fairness. Payroll verification has long been out of reach for the people who need it most. Without the right tools, employees have been left powerless in the face of errors. PayTjek exists to change that — to return knowledge, transparency, and financial control to workers, starting with healthcare employees in Denmark and expanding to empower workers across Europe.
