We are seeking a Quantum Engineer to advance the frontier of quantum computing through cutting-edge work in Quantum Error Correction (QEC). You’ll join a talented, interdisciplinary team driving benchmark experiments and integrating QEC features into the core software and control stack of IQM’s quantum processors. You will collaborate with subsystem owners, software engineers, and QEC theorists. You will influence system calibration and performance fine-tuning for QEC capabilities.

What will I be doing?

  • Execute and analyze QEC capability benchmarks and demonstration experiments.
  • Implement control software features aligned with the IQM QEC roadmap.
  • Identify and specify technology-stack requirements for QEC.
  • Support team collaboration, including onboarding of interns and new engineers.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and coordination efforts.

What skills do I need?

  • PhD or MSc in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
  • Several years of experience in experimental quantum computing with superconducting qubits, preferably with QEC exposure.
  • Technical proficiency in:
    • Quantum experiments related to QEC
    • Quantum computer control systems (digital/analog)
    • Error modeling for quantum circuits
  • Grasp of Quantum Information theory, QEC formalism and error corrected computation.
  • Effective communication, both written and oral, across diverse teams.
  • Track record of collaborative work in a technical, interdisciplinary environment.

Preferred but not required skills:

  • Calibration methods for superconducting qubits and quantum processing units (QPUs).
  • Proficiency in Python software engineering, including testing frameworks, environments, and version control systems.

What can I expect from IQM?

  • Contribute to groundbreaking projects that will shape the future of quantum.
  • Thrive in a creative and open start-up environment that fosters growth, learning, and innovation.
  • Be part of an international, fast-paced environment that values collaboration and cultural diversity.
  • Play a significant role in a rapidly growing organization and be a part of our exciting success story.
