Help us make it easy to understand power consumption

We're looking for a Data Scientist who will be part of our early team and lead our Data Science efforts. You will be defining our analytics approach, building foundational models, and do work that directly impacts what we can expect from a modern electrical panel.

Our mission

At Hybird, we are bringing the electrical panel online and transforming it into a data platform. We process billions of circuit-breaker readings, providing unprecedented real-time visibility into power consumption patterns. We’ve just closed a funding round, and we’re now expanding our team and product capabilities.

Our platform captures high-frequency measurements from electrical panels, enabling enhanced monitoring and deeper insight into what drives consumption. We aim to help installers, facility managers, and building owners optimize operations and power usage. What gets measured gets improved. Ultimately, we want the electrical panel to support remote control and deliver the insights needed to curb consumption and cut emissions.

The job

We're at a place where we have built enough data and enough of an understanding of the space to surface actionable insights through machine learning. This is where you come into the picture.

The ingested data is stored in a timeseries database and we’re working towards a data lakehouse as a foundation for our data science efforts.

We are looking for someone who can…

Build our data science foundation: Design and implement our first data science pipelines, working with our AWS based stack.

Solve real world problems: Develop baselines, anomaly detection (realtime and creep), time series pattern recognition and forecasting systems that will help our partners and customers prevent electrical failures and optimize consumption

Design and own high quality models: Take full responsibility for the models you develop, from conception to production deployment

Establish a healthy data science culture: Help us build the team of your dreams, we need to establish a world class engineering culture and best practices from the ground up

Help shape our future: Define our approach to time series analysis and machine learning at scale

The stack

Our infrastructure is (mostly) in AWS and that’s where we intend to do data science. You'll be in charge of defining the stack for the data science needs, our current direction rhymes with the following technologies but we’re flexible:

  • AWS Analytics (SageMaker, Athena, Glue)

  • Apache Iceberg (S3 Tables)

  • Python Data Science Stack

  • Time Series Tools (Prophet, Amazon Chronos, Timescale)

Outside that, it’s worth mentioning that our application stack is built on AWS Lambda, RDS (Postgres), ECS (Docker) and friends using Go and Ruby. The data science stack will be built using “the best tools for the job”.

You will be supported by a team of engineers who will go out of their way to help you get the foundation in place that the work requires.

About you

You recognize yourself in the following:

An experienced hands on data scientist: You have at least 5 years of experience working with large scale data and are confident in the task at hand

A solid academic background: You have a BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, you have a deep understanding of why your models do (or do not) work

Passionate about your craft: You take pride in your work and choose your tools with care, you know how to balance tried and true against new and shiny

Impact driven: You care about the value your models will bring to customers and the change it will help them drive

Independent thinker and collaborative soul: You thrive in a startup environment where you need to balance autonomy with teamwork, you are highly self motivated

Practical problem solver: You can balance theoretical rigor with practical implementation needs - you do the math and you write the code

A teacher and learner: You're excited to both share your knowledge and learn from others

Bonus points for experience with electrical systems, energy analysis, high volume IoT data, anomaly detection, working in a startup.
