Game Developer (JavaScript)

Salary Competitive

Background

Games help us to demonstrate and improve our technology. We're looking for a game developer with JavaScript/web experience. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience building games in JavaScript, but we're also willing to consider game developers from other ecosystems who also have experience building frontend applications (preferably using React).

This is a unique role with difficult challenges, but also one that rewards. Getting these games right can have a massive impact in Doublepoint's success. The role comes with a lot of responsibility but also autonomy - we're looking for someone to tell us how best to approach problems, rather than someone to just follow guidelines.

If this problem space motivates you, feel free to apply and let us know in your application why you think you're the right fit. We're willing to consider people from different backgrounds provided that they have some relevant experience and the right mindset for the role.

Requirements

  • Proven extensive experience building games: Preferably in JavaScript, but other ecosystems like Unity will also be considered.

  • Frontend development experience: We need someone who can navigate a React codebase and contribute beyond the games themselves. Our games live in a web app which takes care of communicating with our devices and collecting all sorts of data about a session, and being able to contribute to this web app is a must.

  • Experience developing software in a team: While there is a lot of autonomy in this role, you should be able to communicate effectively, challenge us, and be open for feedback.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with modern React codebases: Having experience with TypeScript, React, state management, etc. is a strong plus.

  • Interaction design experience: Being able to come up with novel, technically sophisticated and intuitive input systems for alternative game controllers is a difficult but highly appreciated area.

  • Full-stack experience: Some ability with Python or another backend language as well as experience with databases (particularly relational ones) would also be beneficial.

  • Personal projects: if you have a GitHub, a portfolio or a blog, we would love to take a look!
