About the role:

In this role you will have the opportunity to help develop the gameplay of our mobile app in the early stages of development.

We are creating a gamified math learning app, where classes can compete against each other to win prizes and gain knowledge in math and science. You can think about the app as a mix between Duolingo and Subwaysurfers.

Right now we have a very simple gameplay within our app, where you answer questions and your avatar moves every time it is correct. The goal of the user is to get over the finish line first.

To accomplish our goals we need to write a lot of code in our front end, which will create a better gaming experience.

We want to improve the gameplay to be:

  1. More interactive (move avatar with gestures).

  2. Change it from a race to an obstacle course.

  3. Add animations.

What we require from you:

  • A desire to join us in creating a cool game.

Is a plus: (but is not required - so if you meet none of the below, please don't hesitate to reach out)

  • Experience in ReactNative.

  • Experience in FrontEnd.

  • Experience in Game Development.

What is in it for you?

  • Be the first one we contact when we receive additional funding and need another programmer. (and if it works out very well; the opportunity to become a co-founder)

  • The opportunity to find your own creative solution to solve challenges in the best way and have a say in what features we should add in the gameplay.

  • A project with a lot of freedom and hands-on experience.

More details about us:

Our app is called Planet Peanut and we are a team of 4 people, with one programmer (Simon). Simon has a background in data science and has learned React Native during the last year, so someone with a bachelor in programming will very quickly be able to contribute to our product.

We have +14.000 users where 9% are active every month.

We are actively raising funds to expand our team.

Working at
Planet Peanut

Engaging every student in the classroom and ensuring their full participation and understanding in STEM subjects is a significant challenge for teachers today, leading to a decline in students' abilities in math and science. Our Solution: We introduce a dynamic, game-based learning platform that helps teachers engage their entire classroom in math and science through team competitions. Our platform includes: Team Competition Facilitator: - Students collaborate and compete in teams, fostering unity and motivation. - They participate in leagues throughout the year, earning points by solving STEM problems and preparing for the annual "Golden Peanut" competition. Experiences of Success: - Every lesson completion earns rewards, building a visual learning curve and reinforcing achievement. - This positive reinforcement keeps students engaged and motivated. Gamified Micro Lessons: - Lessons are small, engaging challenges that advance students' avatars in an interactive storyline. - Students see immediate progress, establishing a consistent learning habit. Teacher Assessment Tool: - Teachers track student progress, identifying strengths and areas needing attention. - Customizable local competitions tailored to the curriculum enhance daily engagement. Platform Features: Our app enables students to solve STEM problems in a gamified format, earning in-game rewards while enjoying the process. Each student selects an avatar that progresses through the storyline on PlanetPeanut, engaging in team competitions and climbing leaderboards. Annual "Golden Peanut" Competition: At the end of each school year, classes compete in an exciting 10-day event to win the Golden Peanut. Each day presents specific subject challenges, promoting teamwork and problem-solving skills. Students support each other, striving to earn the highest points for their class. Leagues and Continuous Engagement: Throughout the year, students participate in leagues similar to popular battle passes from games like FIFA and Fortnite. These leagues prepare their avatars for the grand competition, reinforcing continuous learning and engagement. Real-World Impact: Our platform has facilitated numerous examples of peer learning and collaboration. For instance, during one competition, five students spent several hours on a Sunday working together on Zoom to earn points for their class. Combining the motivational elements of gamification with effective e-learning strategies, our platform ensures that students understand STEM concepts while enjoying the learning journey. Our goal is to make every classroom feel like a cohesive team, celebrating shared achievements and fostering a deeper understanding of STEM education.
