THINK is a non-profit organisation committed to advancing health and well-being for vulnerable communities locally and globally. Our work spans three central domains: research, health systems strengthening, and capacity building. We focus on addressing a broader spectrum of critical health challenges, including Infectious Diseases, Mental Health, and Gender disparities, and building resilient healthcare systems in the face of pandemics and climate change. THINK engages with the local community, government consortia, and international funders to provide care and carry out innovative work that has contributed to making a difference locally and globally.
This internship will be in our head office Durban, South Africa, and is open for international foreign students, as a collaboration with European universities.
We seek a highly motivated Community Engagement Intern to join our team at THINK's South African HQ. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Community and Stakeholder Engagement.
While contributing to our mission of making a difference in Global Health. As an intern, you will work closely with our team, receiving guidance and support to develop your skills and knowledge in this field.
1. Report Writing and Knowledge Dissemination:
Prepare comprehensive research reports and publications for dissemination.
Share knowledge and advance global health initiatives, including conducting in-depth research, analyzing data, and crafting clear and concise reports.
Collaborate closely with experts within our organisation to describe THINK’s Good Publication Practices (GPP) and other innovative measures to enhance community engagement.
2. Collaboration and Strategy Implementation:
Work collaboratively with team members to propose and implement effective strategies for knowledge dissemination.
Participate in brainstorming sessions, analysing the effectiveness of different approaches, and adapting strategies based on real-time feedback and outcomes.
Contribute to developing and implementing initiatives that promote community engagement and global health awareness.
3. Continuous Learning and Professional Development:
Engage in continuous learning and professional development.
Receive guidance and support from experienced professionals within our organisation
Participate in Regular training sessions, workshops, and mentorship opportunities to help enhance skills in report writing, community engagement, and knowledge dissemination.
Enrolled in a relevant academic program (international development, anthropology, public health, global health, etc.).
Strong analytical and research skills.
Passion for global health and addressing infectious diseases.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Fluency in English

The internship is preferably a full-time position, but working hours can be adjusted to exam periods and other student jobs. It is an unpaid internship position, starting in January/February 2024 lasting for at least 5 months (subject to university agreement).
