At Famly, we’re looking for a Copenhagen-based design leader to take the user experience of the Famly platform to the next level. Famly is moving beyond Europe and into North America and we know that our platform’s great user experience is key to winning globally. Operating at the heart of the business strategy, you’ll be coaching and enabling our talented design team to further refine and improve the user experience of Famly—and ultimately help more early-years practitioners have time to focus on the children in their care.

And Famly is...? Well, it all began when our co-founder Henrik’s daughter was ready to start at daycare. He couldn’t believe the amount of work being done on paper - and how distant he felt from his first child during the day. The paper ‘parent’ books they exchanged once a month just weren’t cutting it. Together with his friend, our co-founder and CEO Anders, they set about solving that.

These days, the 140 of us building Famly talk about trying to do two things for our 6,500 nurseries:

• Giving children the best possible start to life.

• Championing the vital work that goes into making that happen.

  
  

We do it with software that brings hundreds of thousands of parents closer to their child’s day while they’re away from them. We also make financial, pedagogical, and planning tools for more than 75,000 childcare professionals, saving them hours and reducing their admin stress.

Ultimately, that gives them more time and headspace for the little ones that really matter. Come help us make that happen.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading product design across the entire Famly platform, initially taking a hands-on role in designing certain projects or effectively organizing the design team to ensure successful project execution.

• Shape the product design process from researching a problem through converging on a solution to ensuring the quality of the final product. Guide the product design process on a daily basis.

• Being accountable for the overall user experience and visual consistency of the platform. This includes setting the direction for our design system, Modern Famly.

• Hire and develop talented Product Designers who own the user experience from start to finish in their designated products.

• Partner with Product Management and Engineering to improve Famly's overall development processes.

• Evangelise product design and design thinking to the organization, continually educating Famly on the importance and value of strong design.

• Enabling cross-departmental collaboration with other design-centric departments such as Growth, Brand, and Marketing to ensure a coherent Famly experience for the end user.

• Provide input into the Famly value proposition across product areas and markets.

• Work with the VP of Product to craft a holistic cross-platform and cross-market product design strategy.

In short, you’ll be building a top-class design team making the Famly platform the most user-friendly platform for childcare organizations across all markets.

In the beginning, you’ll be balancing your responsibilities in the process, team management, and strategy with the need to be a designated designer on certain projects or effectively organize the design team to ensure successful project execution. As time progresses, the team evolves and grows, your focus will shift more toward process refinement, team management, coaching, and strategic initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

• Have vast experience in coaching and developing talented product designers.

• Have experience creating UX flows for complex existing products.

• Are used to guiding a team to solve hard problems, over long periods of time, by challenging assumptions, providing new approaches to unblock progress, and help steer progress in the right direction.

• Have deep empathy for users and always put their needs first.

• Have a get-it-done attitude with a strong ability to determine the appropriate level of research and validation needed. You’re not afraid to get your hands dirty and solve design challenges yourself but know how to balance your individual contributions with the duties of leadership.

• Have strong skills in Figma (or similar design tools).

• Are a confident communicator who builds cross-department relationships, knows how to manage stakeholders, and has the ability to package the complex into something memorable, impactful, and actionable.

• Are an experienced leader used to setting outcome-based goals for your team and seeing those goals through to completion.

You'll be working with:

The product managers, engineers, and designers of Famly’s product teams will be your primary collaborators. You will report directly to Nicolai, the VP of Product, and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders, including those from brand, marketing, sales, customer success, and customer support departments.
