Senior Backend Engineer (PHP) for fast-growing EVops scale-up

Monta is a new layer of technology that brings together installers, operators, service providers, EV drivers, and businesses with charge points.

At our core, we make EV charging simple, accessible, and reliable. Our software enables a consistent charging experience across all charge point brands and we empower charge point owners with a full-fledged solution to attract users and seamlessly manage usage, pricing, availability, and transactions. By empowering Charge Point Operators and offering consistent charging experiences for Electrical Vehicle owners, Monta is laying the ground for a scalable and sustainable EV infrastructure.

We have been growing fast and are now 170 employees with 47 different nationalities. Scaling also means our product is continuously being enhanced and improved, and we need more hands on deck. Therefore we are now looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help us create better results, better technology, better systems, and a better experience.

 

The Role

As our new Senior Backend Engineer, you will become an important part of our CPI team within the Engineering department. We are 10 people on the team (50/50 Danes and internationals), and you will report to our Engineering Director Brian.

We're currently in the process of migrating our monolith PHP application into smaller services, which will be your main focus after joining. Additionally, we are maintaining our web portal using Laravel Blade. Our midterm plan is to migrate most of our PHP services into Kotlin.

Once the migration is completed (we expect this to last 1 year+), you have the choice of joining the Backend or Platform team and learning Kotlin / Micronaut. Of course, we will support you in this!

All our work is in English, and we have a flexible way of working. That being said, most of us go to the office as much as possible. Not because we have to, but because we enjoy each other's company - even outside work hours we hang out together.

 

Your main responsibilities:

  • Scope out requirements and plan out the required features for turning a given domain into a successful microservice

  • Work with several teams (can be other backend teams or product teams) to ensure a smooth transition into the microservice

  • Perform validation and verification testing

  • We aim for fairly high code coverage for all of our services

  • Postman for API documentation

  • Document development phases and monitor the system

To keep it short sweet and simple you'll work with:

  • PHP 8.x with Laravel

  • Kotlin with Micronaut

  • AWS Cloud

  • Docker

  • GitOps

  • Kubernetes

  • MySQL/Redis (Database)

  • Prometheus (monitoring system)

  • Grafana (Dashboard/Metrics) and Loki (Logging) for monitoring - it's not important that you know how to use it, be prepared to learn how!

  • Notion for internal documentation

While we don't expect you to know everything about this stack, you should be comfortable learning new tech.

 

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced PHP & Laravel developer. Being able to do small front-end tasks is nice to have as well.

We expect you to be a fairly independent developer being able to take an idea and turn that into working code, but of course, also being able to work in a team is crucial.

We appreciate someone who has the ideal solution in mind but also knows when to take the pragmatic approach.

 

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience as a backend developer working with PHP

  • 2+ years experience with Laravel

  • Comfortable with learning new technologies and topics, we're working on tackling new problems throughout the industry and using scalable solutions to do that!

  • Based in Copenhagen (or be willing to relocate from an EU country, as the whole team is here. We can unfortunately not assist in acquiring visas)

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with Kotlin and/or Micronaut or Java

  • Being able to do small frontend tasks

  • Monthly salary range: 45.000-55.000 DKK depending on your qualifications.

  • 2nd interview with 2 colleagues from Engineering - technical assessment with a task/case study in the interview 

  • 3rd interview - meeting the CPI team
