About Newcycle

We are ending the throw-away society. Newcycle was founded on an ambition to kickstart a circular revolution in retail and consumerism. With the Newcycle app, we give consumers access to digital twins of everything they own, making it easier for our users to maintain, repair, refine, buy and sell their products, regardless of whether they are the 1st, 2nd or 8th owner of a product. The Newcycle app connects the owner of a product with the retailer who sold it and the producer who made it, for the entire life span of the product, benefiting both the consumers and the producers of the products. The positive result is longer use of the products and in the end recycling. We have already launched the app in Norway, and will soon be taking it further out in the world.

We are now looking for a passionate mobile app developer to help us shape the foundation for a circular future.

About the role

Our product team, which you'll be part of consists of: Sondre (product owner and CEO), Alex (designer), Chris (mobile developer) , Ole (full-stack developer), Lovre (backend developer) and Olav (backend developer). You will be working together on planning, shipping and maintaining features for the iOS and Android apps continuously. Currently we use these tools and technologies: TypeScript, Node.js, React, React Native, Elasticsearch, Planetscale, MongoDB, Prisma, ++.

In your day to day work, you'll be reporting to Sondre, and collaborate especially close with Chris and Alex on our React Native app (Expo/EAS/Typescript). Chris has laid the foundation, but we are expecting you to challenge the architecture and design decisions, if you believe it will benefit the team and our users. You will also be having 1-1 meetings with Johan who is responsible for the personal and professional development of our people.

We are looking for someone who loves building products (and especially mobile apps) ❤️ The mobile app is the essence of everything we do, so expect a lot of appraisal (and hype) when stuff is shipped 🤩. Skills and experience we are looking for:

• 2 or more years experience with mobile app development

• You have built a mobile app that you are proud of (and that people love using) 🤩

• Strong knowledge of React, and you evangelize and apply React best practices 🧰

• Experience with React Native, and have used it for both iOS and Android 🍎🤖

• Experience on at least one native platform (iOS or Android) 🍎🤖

• Fluency in English 🇬🇧

• Based in Oslo or willing to relocate (we can assist on the process)

Bonus points if:

• Speak Norwegian, Swedish or Danish 🇳🇴🇸🇪🇩🇰 (or you want to learn one of them. In this case we'll back you up and be patient 😊)

You will be welcomed to Newcylce's office in the cultural centre of Oslo by our passionate team of entrepreneurs, designers and developers. We are a small, but fast growing team of 10 colleagues, who strive to keep a fine balance of simplicity, flexibility, stability, developer experience and future proofing.
