Are you up for creating a great self-service data platform? Do you enjoy working with people and teams, and helping them succeed? Do you like working in a scaling environment, with opportunities to take on more responsibility as we grow?
About the position
We are searching for a Head of Data to lead and grow our Data Team and take technical ownership of our Data platform enabling it to support the future needs of our organization and make us ready for IPO. You will be working closely with the Product Owner and together you will ensure that our Data platform will serve both our business and technical needs of our entire organization. You will be reporting directly to our CTO, Thomas Jespersen.
You will continue the work we started a year ago - building a modern Data Platform using Delta Lake & Apache Spark, and for orchestration using Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics. Our Spark Notebooks are using Python and Spark Structured Streaming. We are just starting to set up a Data Catalog using Azure Purview for documentation and lineage. We have already built a solid foundation for our data platform and are actively serving users on Power BI, Excel, and streaming data to Amplitude, but we're looking to take our data offering to the next level. Everything is built with version control (Git), CI/CD using Azure DevOps and full automation for our Dev, UAT and Production environments.
Your technical experience is vital, but it is equally important you like to work with people, so you will focus both on technical leadership and people management. Part of your role will also be to support our data consumers in collaboration with Product by refining their data needs and translating them into technical terms.
At a high level, your responsibilities will be:
Ensure the technical architecture of our modern Data Platform can scale as our business grows
Collaborate with Product and establish a healthy Agile mindset, improving the team’s performance and business outcomes
You will be establishing a continuous focus on high Data quality and a maintainable platform
Working hands-on with your team through design and implementation
You will be responsible for developing the Data team including hiring and building a team of Data Engineers, Data analysts, and eventually Data Scientists with a great team culture
Mentoring engineers and playing a key role in their professional and personal growth
Contribute to and protect psychological safety and belongingness
Collaborate with teammates to continuously improve the team’s performance
Ensuring compliance with data privacy and information security regulations, ISO and SOC certification
Build a platform that can be used to Machine Learning and AI, to do product recommendations based on usage, metadata, etc.
We take pride in creating a quality product, our code is made via pair-programming and reviewed via pull-requests. Even when we are busy, we do not compromise on quality. If this is a tech stack that you would like to work with and if you enjoy turning simple and readable code into complete solutions that are used by a million users daily around the globe, then Templafy is the place to be!
If this is something that you would like to work with and if you enjoy supporting people to get the data insights they need, then this team is the place to be!

How we work
Teams: The Data team consists of 3-5 engineers. Our teams are cross-functional, self-organised and free to choose their own process, but most use a flavour of Scrum with a 2-week sprint. We believe in the lean principles - e.g. short feedback cycles, minimising handovers, and therefore each team has full responsibility for the features they own from development to deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting. You build it, you run it!
Guilds: Guilds are a place to share knowledge and experiences, and to get help and ideas from others. We currently have a DevOps, Cloud, Back-end, Front-end, Security, QA, and Tracking guild.
Architecture: We try hard to avoid over-engineering and always strive for the simplest solution possible. While we are in the early stages of building our data platform, our design process is guided by selecting simple technologies with a broad application spectrum rather than narrowly focussed ones.
Test focused: We like to test the code we build, and we have a continuous integration infrastructure in place that runs our tests on every push and notifies the team on Slack if something breaks.
DevOps mindset: We are cloud first, and everything is hosted in Microsoft Azure. Each team is responsible for deployments and monitoring of their own services. All work is managed through Azure DevOps including backlog management, source control, pull-requests, releases, and testing.
Automation: We like to automate as much as possible and constantly extend and improve our T-SQL based framework and infrastructure as code solution.
Design: We have a written coding standard, and we follow clean code principles. We develop most of our features using pair programming. Every change is peer-reviewed. We have tools for automatic code clean-up that ensure consistent formatting and structured and fail builds if any rule is violated.
Tools: We use some of the best tools available for the job including Microsoft Azure, Visual Studio 2022, JetBrains Rider, ReSharper, Visual Studio Code, Slack, Zoom, Git, Azure DevOps.
Learning: We believe in lifelong learning and encourage everyone to read books, go to conferences, take courses, and certifications. We want to invest in everyone’s personal and professional development, and therefore we provide the necessary resources to support this. Every sprint we have internal Tech Talks and from time to time we also host and speak at meetups.
Flexible: Our Data Team is located in Copenhagen. We strive for co-located teams, but many teams are currently distributed. Most meetings and work happen online, which gives us the freedom to work from home when you have a repair person coming, your child is sick, etc. While no hard rules we generally like to see people at the office most days.
Benefits
You will be working closely with talented engineers and the rest of our business, all of whom are passionate about helping to create international success. We are using new technology and agile development processes and creating a product that is an essential part of a million users' daily workflow. To all of our employees, we offer a competitive salary, family-friendly environment, flexible office hours, healthy snacks and beverages at the office, and warrants in our Employee Equity Program.
