We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) who is passionate about humans, innovation, startups, and wellness.
We’re on a mission to offer wellness and massage to every body. Literally! Our non-human masseuse offers high-quality but affordable massages. It also never gets tired and doesn’t need small talk.
Already February 2023 we'll open our first salon, which will be the first non-human massage salon in the world!
Our robot differs from the competitors by using learning-by-demonstration as opposed to programming all the movements from scratch. This effectively means we can commercialize and iterate very quickly. From a customer standpoint, our model means human body workers will create custom programs for each of our clients. Making their treatments fully personalized to their body. This initial setup meeting also reduces the risk for us and strengthens trust in general.
Our short-term goal is to open 3 salons in Europe. That would make us franchise and Series A ready.
Our franchise concept has similarities to the tanning salon model. Our vision is to have an automated massage salon in every major city in the world. With 300 salons we’d be considered a unicorn (worth $1 billion).
You’ll play a key role in the development of Self. by leading the engineering team focusing on robotics software, some mechanics, and the overall human-robot interaction. As part of the management team, you will work closely with the CEO and later our CPO to set the company’s direction.
You will help us bring the venture to the next level. While leading the technical, we expect you to have a growth hacking mindset and to operate on a tight budget in the first 1-2 years.
With an understanding of the chaos and lack of structure that sometimes describe a start-up, the ideal candidate will enjoy seeking opportunities and will be energized by our high ambitions and growth expectations, embracing the challenge of building an international company from nothing. With equal importance to the background, we will focus on each candidate’s leadership approach and competencies for this role.
You'll be working alongside our main technical advisor, Jimmy Jorgensen, from Nordbo Robotics. He will act as a temporary CTO until we find the right candidate (possibly you?).
Nordbo has developed a tracking software platform called Mimic. It allows human craftsmanship to be transferred into the robot. Read more about the tech here: https://www.nordbo-robotics.com/mimic-kit
It is of course a big plus if you have robotics experience, but it is not required. We'd rather you're an incredible leader and human being. We already have a huge network of some of the smartest and most respected roboticists in Europe.
Technical areas you will focus on:
Orchestrating all the standard components we use (making them play nicely together).
Our standard components include:
Position tracking (using mimic from Nordbo Robotics)
Computer vision
Remote for client interaction
Percussion device
Robot-human interfaces
Safety in general
Patents
Compliance and certifications (medical device 60601, ISO 13485 and MDR Klasse 2a)
Machine learning and AI
Tech stack includes:
Python
C++
Linux
Friends and colleagues would describe you as follows:
A person with whom they would enjoy having coffee
A team player with whom it is easy to work
Obsessed with understanding customers' needs
Always completes objectives
Listens to feedback but is strong enough to drive a vision
Motivated by results
Thinks analytically
Has an entrepreneurial mindset
Takes on challenges happily
Note: The expected start date for this role is Spring 2023.
