Scientific Coordinator

BrainCapture has won an EIC Accelerator Award, a prestigious EU program that  supports the most innovative and relevant technology startups on the continent. The EIC program funds BrainCapture’s development for the next 2 years, including a significant testing and validation program to prove BC’s technology to the market.

For this reason, we seek an experienced, motivated, and inspired scientific coordinator to join our team. This person will be responsible for BrainCapture’s scientific and medical strategy.

We currently have a strong foundation in engineering and data science. Our ambition is to utilize our grant funding to build an equally strong foundational element in the medical field. We want to create a virtuous cycle of technological development paired with feedback from testing by medical practitioners all over the world. A strong candidate will have the capacity to own and execute this vision, and will work well with a multidisciplinary and multinational team who are motivated by BrainCapture’s mission and its potential to democratize access to the EEG diagnostic.

The first task of a successful candidate will be to coordinate BrainCapture’s first large-scale study with a new device. This study will take place in Kenya and will build on previous published work by BC’s founders. Day to day operations will be subcontracted, but BC will provide significant input in the form of study design, protocols, training, and other materials. The study aims to validate that non-expert users of BC’s device can take EEG scans that are comparable to those taken by trained EEG technicians using traditional devices.

This is an exciting role with significant potential for growth. BrainCapture is still small, but has demonstrated its ability to attract funding (>2.5M Euro in the past 6 months) and develop its concept. This position may grow to Chief Medical Officer once BrainCapture has launched its product.

Key competencies include:

  • Scientific study design

  • Scientific / clinical study protocol writing

  • Experience with or competencies related to ethical approvals and IRB submissions

  • Experience in administering scientific / medical studies

  • Medical competencies (Dr. or health professional is ideal)

  • Experience within neurology is desirable

  • Experience with or in the medical device industry is desirable

  • A strong understanding of the needs of medical facilities

  • International health market experience desirable

Working at

BrainCapture is a Danish startup developing a revolutionary medical technology aimed at the 4+ Billion people in emerging markets who lack consistent and affordable access to neurological diagnostics. This lack of access leads to millions of people going without diagnosis and treatment for conditions like Epilepsy. We believe this significant global issue can be addressed by applying the tools of the 21st century - smartphones, connectivity, AI and automation - to the outdated medical technology and practices currently in use. We also believe that the vast disparity in access to care represents an opportunity. We are creating an Electroencephalogram (EEG) device which is easy to use, telemedicine optimized, and AI assisted in order to offer EEG as a service throughout Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. The idea of an affordable, portable, connected EEG device has matured rapidly since BrainCapture was founded in 2019. Our small but dedicated team has validated the concept in trials in Guinea and Bhutan, tested prototypes at Filadelfia Epilepsy Hospital in Denmark and at Harvard Medical School, and undertaken usability testing in Kenya. Our founding team consists of leading AI professors from DTU, a Harvard professor in Epilepsy, engineers with execution experience and strong senior investors. We have secured funding through investors and European grants for the next phase of our growth we have been awarded a 1M EUR Eurostars grant(2020), raised 500k EUR in seed capital (2021), and secured 2M EUR from the European Innovation Council via their Accelerator Award (2022) with this our development and roll out is fully funded through 2025. We are currently expanding the team with several profiles to take us to the next level and deliver a device and technology stack that will change the lives of millions of people all over the world. While our approach to the EEG device is novel, we are not alone. A wave of innovation is sweeping the diagnostics industry. Join us to participate in a once-in-a-generation innovation.
