Senior Backend Engineer (Early Hire)

Salary DKK 50,000 - DKK 65,000
Equity To be negotiated

Hello 👋

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer that will be a part of the early engineering team, defining our tech stack, building the foundation and going on a journey where what you do makes a real difference in the world.

OUR MISSION:

Decarbonising homes, faster 🏡

Space heating is 12% of emissions, which is about the same as all personal transportation (i.e. gas-guzzling cars!).

Even worse, 40% of our natural gas supply comes from very bad places and that's what we use for heating today. The only way we get rid of both is by installing a lot more heat pumps in the 50 mio+ homes Europe-wide, and very quickly.

The only problem is:

It's a pretty terrible and expensive experience to get a heat pump today - and that needs to change.

WHAT WE DO

Build the tech platform that makes it seamless to decarbonise your home 🌍

We're building the ultimate pre-installation platform that makes it easy for large players (think energy companies, wholesalers, manufacturers) to estimate, configure and model a heat pump deployment in consumers homes, while reducing friction that keeps our installers from loving being a green transition hero.

That involves building a platform with fx.:

  1. Digital & embedded onboarding flow

  2. Automated heat loss calculation

  3. Precision price+configuration

  4. Workflow orchestration

  5. Integrated finance/payment

  6. Energy/asset management and more.

THE ROLE

That's where you come in ☝️ ☝️ ☝️

  • Define a new codebase: Build a codebase from a clean slate. You'll build a system that orchestrates a messy physical world and which will scale into adjacent, carbon reducing domains.

  • Build what matters: Spend your working hours designing and developing end-to-end solutions that makes it seamless to transition to a green home and economy

  • Own your code: You'll get full responsibility of the code you write, but surrounded by people who are there to help

  • Create an amazing dev experience: Optimise the developer experience for yourself and your team members, allowing us to move the needle efficiently

  • Establish a technical culture: Establish/promote an honest learning culture, built on trust and a growth mindset

  • Help others shine: Constructively suggest technical approaches, improve solutions and perform code-reviews with peers, so we can carve the best path forward

THE TEAM

Who you'll be working with 🤝🤝:

  • Martin (CEO): Passionate climate-activist with a background in growth.  Formerly COO at Tomorrow/ElectricityMap and before that Lix, Uber, Google. https://www.linkedin.com/in/martincollignon/

  • Anders (COO): Should've-been-an-engineer process person.  Formerly Co-Founder/COO of Undo Insurance, before that Rainmaking, Qvartz/Bain https://www.linkedin.com/in/andersvalentin/

  • Michael (Frontend Lead): Product-heavy frontend expert.  Formerly Co-Founder of Fitbay & high-end freelancer (Apple, Novo, Undo, Danske Bank) https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelwolthers/

  • Jonas (UI Engineer): Systems thinker, designer and self-taught frontender.  Formerly co-founder of Audacity Interactive and Head of Design at Dawn Health. https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonaskroner/

YOU ARE:

To be succesful in the role, you are likely:

  • An experienced backender: You probably have 5+ years of experience working as a software engineer - you've worked with Typescript, Go or similar in the backend and have some familiarity with basic devops.

  • Passionate about the craft: You take a pride in your craft, and you're curious about staying up to date on new technologies and practices. You strive for balance between tried-and-tested, and new and shiny.

  • Interested in fighting climate change: We are solving a climate problem and solving it is our first priority. Some of the work we'll be doing may not be glorious, but it helps our future generations.

  • Work independently, anchored in teamwork: You thrive out of silos and with early collaboration in building product, and have opinions on what we are building and why.

  • Naturally good at balancing now and future: What matters to you is the real life value our stakeholders get from what you are building. You sense when it's time to pay tech debt and when it can be incurred in the interest of speed.

  • A sharer and teacher: We want you to bring your experience and how you like to work into the mix, so we can create an awesome company together. Similarly, you want to learn from other people's experiences.

  • Okay with ambiguity: Early startup life is never a straight line. You don't mind that ambiguity, and can see when structure is required and when it's in the way.

  • A plus if: You've been part of an early startup journey/setting up tech stacks

  • A plus if: You've worked with or around workflow/orchestration/process-heavy industries

Working at
Lun

Our carbon emissions are still increasing, and the evidence for dramatic climate change is all around. We want to do our part in solving it. In Europe, 12% of our carbon emissions come from heating our homes - just as much as using our cars. Getting those emissions to zero will be a gargantuan task: retrofitting 90 million buildings across many countries is a hard problem. Lun’s mission is to decarbonise homes faster, by building an operating system for tradespeople in the European energy renovation industry. Our first task is to make heat pump installations an absolute no-brainer for plumbers and electricians.
