Our mission in Heap is to revolutionize pension and to make it available to individuals in a modern work environment where you aren’t tied to a specific employer for your whole career. We are making pension digital, simple, flexible, and sustainable. We launched our product in late 2020 and already have more than a thousand customers on our platform.

We are based in Talent Garden in Copenhagen and are looking for an on-location hire, though we work remotely quite a bit to stay safe from the unfolding pandemic. The product is currently in Danish and only targeted towards Danish residents, so while the code is of course in English, cursory knowledge of Danish is preferred.

About you

You are comfortable with exploring and evaluating possible solutions together and across functions. You know how to get things moving quickly and autonomously, despite the little delays in tooling and feedback loops that occur. You strive for high quality but know when to make trade-offs to quickly get partially to your goal and then iterate from there. You know how to leave your ego at the doorstep when you collaborate with product development and review code. You want to achieve the best result that meets our goals, sometimes with solutions that are non-technical. You put more value on the user experience we create than any specific technical feature, code gets replaced, and that's OK. You are probably not an expert in pension and insurance, but you are eager to learn and understand the business domain.

A typical day at Heap

You start out your day by reviewing pull requests from your colleagues to make sure they are unblocked, so we can progress as a team. 

At the daily status meeting, we walk through our sprint board together and you make sure to listen for any blockers or research work that needs to be done to keep us progressing.

You listen in on feedback from user interviews from design or customer success to get a better understanding of the challenges currently facing our customers. You collaborate with product development, design, customer success, or marketing to ensure that we are working on the right things.

An alert notification pops up; a server is having trouble. You investigate and resolve the issue, sometimes in collaboration with our pension provider.

You pick up a new task, ask clarifying questions and get to work to move it along.

You write the code that’s needed, test it and collaborate with your peers and product owner to ensure the code quality and user experience is what we want it to be.

You move your work along the pipeline and into production.

You make a note to demo your new feature on Thursday, where we all get together to celebrate our achievements.

What you can expect from Heap

We will support you in your learning and development, in understanding our business, and in improving your skills, tech or otherwise. You are not expected to know everything upfront. When you don’t, we have your back and we will learn together.

We will provide you with the tools you need to be comfortable and do good work. If a solution strays outside our core business, we prefer to pay for a service instead of making you reinvent the wheel. We know that long work hours come with diminishing returns, so we strive never to go there outside of emergencies.

You will have regular 1:1’s with our CTO and CEO where you can express yourself safely and figure out how our collaboration and business can improve. We want to continuously improve the way we work together, so we take our retrospectives seriously.

You can expect passion, learning from failures, and follow-through. We also enjoy each other's company, regularly throw social events for the entire team, and have quite a few laughs together :)

We are a total team of 13 in Heap of which 7 are in product development (engineering and design) and growing. 7 of us are parents. Two of us are in our early 40’s and the rest are younger.
