Are you driven by purpose and pragmatism? Do you have experience in building and executing on solid, progressive sustainability strategies, empowering businesses to advance their sustainability, while helping people around you grow and learn new things?
BeCause is looking for an experienced and ambitious Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) that can head up our sustainability department and drive our external sustainability offerings, our own footprint and team capabilities to the next level. This position requires you to take leadership in questioning, developing, and implementing a long-term framework, methodology and vision for sustainability at BeCause – while working tactically short-term to create and follow value iteratively as demonstrated and demanded by the market with few resources – i.e. the startup way.
The purpose of the CSO role is closely tied to our mission of making "sustainability = everyone's everyday business" and our belief that "communicating brand sustainability info - conveniently, credibly & consistently - in the market" will be crucial for humankind to solve the sustainability challenges of the world and for businesses to thrive.
At BeCause, we therefore offer companies a 1-stop-hub for their Brand Sustainability Information Management – to help overcome the currently suffering conversion- & retention-rates of sustainable-minded stakeholders due to inefficient coordination & ineffective sustainability communication across channels, systems, teams and frameworks – by Assembling & Optimizing their ‘sustainability CV’ a single place online and automatically Showcasing it where-ever and how-ever stakeholders need it.
In other words, we facilitate (connect) & foster (nudge) supply & demand for sustainability in the everyday market. We believe this will ultimately create exponentially more systematic impact value than can otherwise be achieved by any one actor single-handedly. The ambition is to scale this impact to the whole world through digitalization and automation of these brand sustainability management capabilities. Nonetheless, such innovation must come from human knowledge, invention and, initially also, hand-held delivery. The question now is whether you would like to be that innovative human being?
As our Chief Sustainability Officer, you will be responsible for:
Managing an (initially small) team of sustainability consultants and analysts – to help you deliver on your following responsibilities – by virtue of:
Planning
Education
Delegation
Supervision
Care-taking

Refining our own internal sustainability so we “practice what we preach” – hereunder:
Directing the important sustainability agenda, policies and projects including setting and achieving climate and ESG targets as well as delivering progress, and developing new strategic priorities based on materiality assessment.
Collaborating closely with the businesses and operations to ensure achievement of targets and integration of sustainability into business operations.
Developing roadmap to realize goals and targets; implementing a suite of appropriate business relevant internal and external KPIs to measure and report on progress.
Educate and share knowledge on sustainability or ESG agendas within the business and externally.
Producing whitepapers and knowledge tools for our business community – in conjunction with the marketing department.
Source, develop and lead key sustainability projects, as well as bring continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility
