At Donkey Republic we believe that sustainable mobility should be available to everyone. We do this by providing an affordable bike rental service across Europe in more than 70 cities. We work closely with cities and lawmakers to help transform cities into more liveable places.

What your job will be

At Donkey Republic we use various IOT hardware from GPS trackers to controllers in our e-bikes. We combine buying off the shelve with building our own when it makes strategic sense to do so. We are looking for a person to join the team and take a key role in developing and rolling out hardware and firmware.

HW/FW development at Donkey Republic is guided by three important points:

• Low power - Some of our devices are powered for up to 4 years on a single set of small batteries. You should have experience with low power and be able to estimate a power budget and perform power consumption tests.

• Reliability & simplicity - Our hardware needs to be work 24/7 without any need for human interaction. Keeping hardware and firmware design simple is the best way to achieve this.

• Low cost and stable supply chain - Being able to deliver with short notice is just as important as keeping costs low. Both gives us a competitive edge.

Who you are

• We expect you to have several years of experience building electronics and writing firmware.

• You are capable of taking a requirement specification and build a PCB on your own, including selecting appropriate components, drawing schematics and laying out the PCB. You will also ensure that the PCB gets produced at a manufacturer and follow up on quality and supply chain matters.

• You are also an experienced firmware developer and you have experience with several processor architectures and basic concepts like interrupt handling, sleep management, build environments, etc. We expect you to be well organised and endorse digital virtuoses like file revisioning.

• You need to be able to work individually but you will be sparre with our CTO who has many years of experience from low power embedded design.
