Lead developer and potential Co-Founder / CTO for new digital platform for classical music

Salary Unpaid
Equity To be negotiated

We are looking for a lead developer and potential co-founder / CTO for the expansion of the Live Klassisk platform.

Bringing classical music to new audiences

Classical music is often associated with being inaccessible and difficult to approach - a misconception that is only strengthened by the fact that the classical music world is extremely difficult to navigate and that it is highly time consuming and requires extensive knowledge to find classical concerts.

At Live Klassisk we want to change this by providing easy access to all live classical concerts, festivals, ensembles and venues. Through the Live Klassisk platform, new and young audiences - as well as core audiences - will have an easy entry into the classical music world. All classical concerts in Scandinavia are currently on the platform, and these can be sorted by preference based on time, place and genre - and soon much more.

Live Klassisk currently has more than 350 customers, including all orchestras, ensembles, festivals and large venues in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

We are seeking to expand our core team to accelerate the expansion of Live Klassisk to the rest of the Nordic Countries, Europe and eventually North America. A dedicated (full stack) developer is needed to handle the technical development of the platform, including building a number of new exciting features to make classical music easier accessible to more people and preparing the database to handle the many thousands of classical concerts, orchestras and festivals all over Europe and North America. The person will have an important say in key decisions about the future development of the project and will largely have complete technical freedom.

We are running active campaigns on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram (due to COVID-19 and the many cancellations all over Scandinavia, there is currently a reduced activity). See much more on our social media sites and our websites: www.liveklassisk.dk /.no /.se.

Who we are

We are a small team (Erik and Daniel) with a strong passion for and many years of first hand experience in the classical music industry from Scandinavia to Central Europe, Canada and USA.

Erik Danciu is a violin graduate from the soloist class (comparable to a Ph.d.) from The Royal Danish Academy of Music (Det Kongelige Danske Musikkonservatorium) with previous studies in Vienna and USA. From 2018 - 2021 he played 1. violin in DR Symfoniorkesteret.

Daniel Lyngstad is also a violin graudate from The Royal Danish Academy of Music and currently plays part time 1. violin in The Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. Alongside his violin career he is the founder of several classical music festivals in Norway.

What is Live Klassisk?

Live Klassisk is a new digital platform for classical music, providing easy access to all live classical concerts, festivals, ensembles and venues in Scandinavia.

The platform launched in Scandinavia august 2020 (mid-pandemic) and has been embraced by musicians, cultural institutions and audiences all over Scandinavia. All orchestras, ensembles, classical festivals and big venues in Scandinavia are part of Live Klassisk, amounting to more than 350 customers (currently on a free-to-use plan). Despite of COVID-19 and hundreds of cancellations, there has been more than 2500 concerts on the platform since launch.

The platform is the first of its kind in the classical music industry, has significant scaling-potential and very little competition. We are looking to expand to the rest of the Nordic Countries, Europe and eventually USA - as soon as possible.

What we are looking for

Live Klassisk (currently v. 2.1) has been built from the ground in close collaboration between the founders, a team of highly competent developers and UI/UX-designers.

We are looking for someone to take the lead on the programming aspect of the project and who can focus solely on the continued technical development of the platform.

The person will get to make key decisions on the future technical development of the project in close collaboration with the founders.

Who you are

We don't require you to specifically be interested in classical music but we imagine that you, like us, are culturally interested and want to help bring out classical concerts to new audiences.

It is not important which exact languages and frameworks you are currently working with, as long as you are an experienced full-stack developer.

Our codebase is primarily React, Netlify and Firebase.

We communicate in Danish/Norwegian and English.

The fine print

As we are currently dependent on grants and funds we cannot as of now offer a salary for this position. We ourselves (Erik & Daniel) are currently working unpaid as well.

Instead we offer you a part-ownership of Live Klassisk, dependent on a mutually beneficial and pleasant collaboration during a trial period.

The average workload will be between 10 - 15 hours per week.

We offer flexible hours and you will get to be part of a team of highly passionate, ambitious and kind colleagues with a strong dose of team-spirit and will be working directly together with some of the biggest orchestras, ensembles and artists in the classical music industry.

Working at
Live Klassisk

Live Klassisk is a new digital platform for classical music, providing easy access to all live classical concerts, festivals, ensembles and venues in Scandinavia. Our goal is to make classical music more approachable and engaging through a strong unified digital presence. The platform is the first of its kind for classical music and has a significant global potential in a big and widely respected industry that is - thankfully for us - lacking digital innovation. In spite of lockdown, our small team has already made a big impact on the classical music industry in Scandinavia in a very short time. Now is the time to think big and to expand - and for that we are looking for partners and potential co-founders. Live Klassisk is founded by a team of musicians and entrepreneurs from Denmark and Norway who are deeply passionate about classical music and who see the potential - and the cruciality - of combining arts and tech. Don't hesitate to hit us up if you think this is for you!
