StepOut is an early stage tech startup based in Helsinki, Finland. At StepOut, we are providing fitness and well-being services offered by skilled independent trainers via our platform i.e. the mobile and web-app that allows people to access fitness from the comfort of their own premises. Using our platform, the users can instantly explore, book, pay and attend various activities on-the-go; making these activities accessible online but in an interactive way. Our service aims to encourage fitness and well-being for all age groups while motivating them to develop an active lifestyle. Our mission is to empower solo-entrepreneurs in the field of fitness & recreation by creating convenient earning opportunities for them. We are looking for our Chief Technology Officer who will be responsible for leading StepOut’s developers team. You are someone who :

• is capable of interacting with product managers and stakeholders to gather requirements in order to deliver exactly what is needed 

• can challenge our status quo & help us define best practices for the ways we work

• choose emerging technologies and approaches to create high-performance software solutions that scale

The candidate must possess most or all of the following preferable : 

• Full-stack experience including building applications with Javascript / Typescript /React / Node js / mobile applications (hybrid)

  • experience with Javascript frameworks 

  • server side rendering for React app : Gatsby, NextJs

  • knowledge of deployment procedures : AWS infrastructure

  • familiar with Docker, Kubernetes

  • knowledge of database design (MySQL, NoSQL) & performance optimization

• System architecture and project structuring

• Working experience with high level of test automation (Unit, Integration, E2E)

• Understands SDLC process and key principles

• UX/UI understanding & API knowledge

• Strategic vision, hands-on approach, easy-going, flexibility & growth mindset

• Enthusiastic & passionate about building products & leading tech teams

• Able to define tech standards in accordance with the market needs

• Ensure a state-of-the-art software development methodology

• Is able to collaborate with the CEOs on the company/product strategy as well as share knowledge with colleagues and help them grow their technical skills.

This person should have full stack competency and experience or knowledge of building large scale consumer facing applications with concern for ease of use, attractiveness, repeat use and privacy. In the short term the application will need to be enhanced according to the user journeys defined. 

0 - 6 months : Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the developers team 

• Build the roadmap and strategize the development of the product

• Managing technology budget (tools/ people/ cost reduction/ cloud hosting): Helps eliminate unnecessary costs/reduce costs on the development side 

• Product architecture : focusing on sustainability in the long run

• Own the end-to-end in the product life cycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, and implementation 

• Hiring as per the tech requirements 

6 - 12 months : Key responsibilities

• Full-time commitment 

• Managing and overseeing the tech team while also contributing to the development 

• Build the tech roadmap : necessary milestones, determine possible roadblocks

• Strategize the development of the product : use of AI and machine learning 

• Product architecture : focusing on sustainability in the long run

• Own the end-to-end in the product life cycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, and implementation 

• Hiring as per the tech requirements
