Software is what drives our company. And we are looking for a junior engineer to be part of this journey. We build all our services ourselves and are completely rethinking how renting works – in Denmark and soon in multiple new markets. It has been our strategy from the beginning to hire for experience and to build a proper foundation, so you will join a team of experienced engineers.

Proper is more than efficient property management. Proper is a seal of quality, safety and reliability. Our service is a lean and automated process for landlords and tenants – providing transparency and trust in the rental market. We want the renting experience to be favorable. The process of renting out properties should be simple and tenants should feel at home. 

We scaled more than 30% MOM for 18 months and received our Seed round early 2020. Now we’re preparing for our Series A with the aim of reaching multiple countries and +100K tenancies.

About the job

We rely entirely on a serverless infrastructure on AWS. Most of our micro-services are written in Java, based on Clean Architecture and are event-based, using AWS Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, and DynamoDB.

Our frontend is a React app based on Next.js, styled-components and our own component library built with Storybook. And yes, everything is written in TypeScript.

We build our product through a process inspired by Lean startup / design-thinking. First, we test ideas and business needs through pretotypes. Once we have an understanding of the jobs-to-be-done, we either move on to a prototyping stage, or straight to the “real” implementation if requirements have become clear. We learn a lot during these initial phases while using only limited resources. And we find that this process allows us to move fast and stay agile while giving us a high degree of confidence in the product we deliver.

The Product team uses Scrum. You will not be limited to a certain technology or area, but get responsibility across the product, and it is expected that you contribute to the team and use your skills broadly within the product team.

Needless to say, as we process the rent for thousands of homes and offices we are serious about security and privacy.

About you

We are looking for a software engineer with 2 years of experience, preferably working with Java and/or TypeScript. Interest in AWS Lambda, SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB is welcomed.

You are eager to be part of a very senior product team. As a person you thrive in a position where you have a lot of responsibility, opportunity to grow, and you are intrigued by the thought of working in a small team where you will get to challenge the existing processes, the team, the product and yourself. It is important that you thrive in a very fast-paced environment
 and that you are passionate about what you do. Most importantly, we also expect that you have a “get stuff done” attitude.

We have made a strategic decision not to have a remote office, so you must be able to work full-time at our office in Copenhagen. Of course, the current COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our company as well, so to the extent it is feasible, you can work from home during this period.
