We all share the passion for building the next generation of digital health. We are a team of software engineers, data scientists, designers and more.

Our work is meaningful and ambitious. Our software product enables remote care for heart patients with implanted devices. We enhance the lives of patients while making clinicians more efficient at the same time.

Who are you?

You want to work on a product that matters in a driven team that aims to improve the quality of life for our users (patients suffering from cardiac diseases ).

Your focus will be to move our machine-learning features into production. Part of this work means re-designing our data warehouse and creating workflows that increase the productivity of everyone working with data. You will help our data science team improve software engineering competencies with a focus on using version control for data, structuring code, ensure good testing and documentation.

As a person, you are:

• Passionate about tooling and workflow optimization.

On the tech side, we're interested in your experience with:

• Deploying and monitoring machine learning models.

• Building and maintaining data warehouses. We use AWS S3/Athena.

• Software engineering practices such as version control, testing, and documentation in a data science context (experience with DVC or something similar is nice but not required)

• Python and the modules commonly used for Data Science work.

Our Tech Stack

The Vital Beats platform runs on AWS and is managed by Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), which provides resilience and allows developers to create representative environments for development, testing, QA and production.

We use Elixir for API services, Python for data science/ML, PostgreSQL as our database, MinIO as file server, and RabbitMQ as an event bus.

Our Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) is managed via Jenkins with code-based pipelines. When changes are merged to one of the main branches, it triggers a deployment to the relevant EKS context/namespace.

Orchestration of the platform is done with Terraform, and we use DataDog for monitoring and alerting.

Our frontends consist of a React Native mobile application for iOS and Android for patients and a web-based React application used by clinicians at hospitals.

We’re solving hard problems

Doing health tech right is difficult for a number of reasons.

Some are technology-related: stability, security, transparency, and reproducibility, which are a different beast than the typical throughput and scaling. Standards and protocols for health tech are still evolving and therefore require creative solutions. It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future. We’re building tools to predict severe arrhythmias and detect early signs of disease worsening.

Other reasons are more practical: different hospitals and clinics simply have different workflows, and this impacts the way we design software to support those individualities. Finally, there are the legal and ethical considerations: how do we handle GDPR, security, auditing, logging, national and international law, etc.
