As a technical genius, you’ve probably heard this one before: “This is an exciting role with great opportunity…” Even though you might have been tired of hearing it, we genuinely believe that this might actually be one! Here's why:
The problem we want to solve: 46.4 percent of Americans will experience a mental illness during their lifetime. And that's just USA...
The solution: Aya - the trusted and personal companion for mental wellbeing, bringing evidence-based support in an affordable and accessible way with technology.
To achieve that, we are looking for an exceptionally motivated, curious and results driven CTO to join Aya as co-founder and help us build a world class product.
We have already built a working app with promising results, but we need you to set up Aya for the long run, so we can make it the best in the world.
What’s the setup like?
Aya is founded by experienced entrepreneurs together with the Danish venture studio KRING. This gives us extra firepower, as the founders can bring their expertise and drive, whereas the venture studio brings the first investment, free-of-charge help from their in-house venture building team, as well as an impressive network making it easier to get the next investment. It gives us an unfair advantage to make this happen!
To build our solution, we mainly apply 3 ingredients:
Science, rooting everything we do in evidence, right now centred on psychology.
Design, to create a world class and humane product experience.
Technology, powering the product, enabling us to scale and help people regardless of geography, time and usage - and THIS is where you come in...
What are my responsibilities going to be?
It’s actually quite simple: Use your tech skills to make world class technology and ultimately shape the product towards global impact.
In slightly more details, you will be responsible for building and leading your own development team, take ownership of our tech stack and of course help building an awesome company with the other founders!
We have made a more detailed description below, but please challenge us on it → you’re the expert here, remember? ;)
What we believe you'll be doing:
Live out a desire to use technology for purpose and impact in the mental health-space
Be a member of the Aya founder team and co-shape the overall company strategy, particularly the technology- and product direction.
Build and lead an engineering team (including engagement, recruitment, retention and team management)
Set the technical vision and -roadmap priorities
Continuous sparring with the rest of the team, especially around product - Bring your technical wisdom and lead the process of taking ideas to implementations
Partner with engineering teams to ensure smooth implementation, operation and development - and partake yourself when and where it's needed
Define best practices around code practices, methodologies, development, quality assurance, data processing and -security
Be a continuous learner and practitioner of experiments, hacks and hypotheses challenging
What we believe we are looking for (but feel free to enlighten us):
2-5 years (min. 2 years hands-on) experience architecting and building production stage tech products, preferably from pre-launch through scale
Strong understanding of general software architecture best practices, including understanding of databases, security practices and cloud infrastructure (we use MS Azure)
technologies: Fluent in Javascript / Node.js / TypeScript and REST API design
Great understanding of databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar)
Proven ability to scale and build engineering teams
Strong knowledge of- and experience with implementation of modular tech stacks and heavy use of API's and integrations
Experience working with open source frameworks and bending them to real applications
Experience with native app development is a great plus (server + client side, e.g. techs React Native, Xamarin)
Experience with bot frameworks and NLP technology is a plus (Azure, RASA)
Relevant experience with ML, bots and MS Azure is a plus
Startup experience in engineering leadership positions is a great plus
Ability to understand and speak English (bonus points for Danish)
We know this was a lot of information… We hope some of it (at least) made sense and if not, feel free to reach out to our co-founder Simon to hear more about it on sim[at]kring.com.
But if you got inspired to apply, you better do it now - we're hiring on an ongoing basis :)
