Help solve one of humanity’s greatest challenges: High quality food for a rapidly growing urbanised population, produced sustainably. At Nextfood, we are reshaping the plant-based food supply chain from farm to fork with large scale indoor farms combined with mini-farms in restaurants, catering, retail etc. Our computer controlled decentralised farm network grows deliciously fresh, locally produced, pesticide-free greens year-round to the benefit of flavour, health and climate. 1 m2 Nextfood farm corresponds to 200 m2 outdoor farm land and saves 98% water, more than 75% fertiliser and electrifies energy consumption.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and strongly motivated plant growing expert with leadership skills. As Head Grower, referring to the CEO, you will be in charge of how we grow in the daily production across our network of farms as well as lead development of growth recipes that introduce new plants and optimise existing plants in production. You will have our network of farms and laboratories at your disposal daily growing thousands of plants and collecting millions of data points through the sensors and actuators of the precisely controlled farms. Working closely with our engineers you will have a large influence on the development of the farm hardware and software opening up new possibilities in the plant domain.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead development and implementation of plant growth recipe development and production processes, aiming for better flavour, nutrition and yield

  • Define strategy, objectives and plans for the growing domain

  • Hands-on involvement in plant growing experimentation and production

  • Give inputs to technical colleagues developing the farm hardware and software

  • Work with business colleagues helping them understand the commercial potential of plants being grown

You:

  • Hands-on experience with growing plants, ideally in a soilless system (not required)

  • Deep understanding of how “plants work” - practical experience (crucial) and theoretical understanding

  • Execution oriented, data driven and entrepreneurial

  • Curious, direct, proactive and open minded. You take lead and ownership

  • Some technical understanding enabling you to give inputs to your engineer colleagues developing the farm technology

  • BSc or MSc

  • Passionate about our mission

We offer:

  • The opportunity to help solve one of the main challenges humanity faces through business and technology

  • High degree of influence in an open inclusive culture of dedicated people

  • A great place to learn - we combine cutting edge plant science, artificial intelligence, big data, hardware, software, mechanics, chemistry and cloud computing with new business models and supply chain processes

  • A cross-disciplinary team

  • Flexible workplace and hours

  • Greens to take home
