Head of Sales (CRO) for a Co-Founder / Partner role at Excelerate

I am looking for a co-founder / partner for Excelerate to head up the sales and marketing department.

I say 'sales', but what do we actually sell? Before I can answer that, please read on :)


A few words about Excelerate

1 in 5 academics does not have a job 1 year after graduation and 1 in 6 is working in a job they are overqualified for. That's straight-up just not good enough.

Too many bright graduates are not achieving their dreams, but we are here to make it happen. Therefore, we have built a platform where students can list their thesis topic and companies can find the right student group for the perfect thesis collaboration match.

Excelerate is in the early days of the startup journey. We launched our platform in October 2020, and are present on ITU, KU and CBS. Our student growth trajectory for 2021 is looking strong.

We have a great marketing team focusing on social media, blog writing, PR and offline marketing, and we are in total 6 employees.


So what do we sell??

We have built a platform where students can list their thesis topic and companies can find the right student group for the perfect thesis collaboration match. We charge companies a subscription fee which allows them to contact and offer the students a thesis collaboration.

The product on the 2-sided platform is the students. The pain relief we offer to students is the pill called 'anti-unemployment'. By using Excelerate as a student you increase the chance that you get a thesis collaboration with a relevant company within your field of interest. Writing your thesis with a company is regarded, together with a study job, as the most significant factor in landing a relevant job after graduation.

The buyer on the platform is the companies. They are looking for talent, but it takes a lot of effort and is a very time-consuming process normally. Screening, Interviewing 1-2-3 times, Testing, etc only to find out, after you hired the graduate, that the cultural fit wasn't there. Having a student group writing their thesis in collaboration with a company at the company's location gives the company the opportunity to hack the hiring process. They can now see how the students are actually fitting and performing withing the company settings. What we sell is; time, innovation and de-risking the chance of a bad hire.

Time; The company will save time using us as their recruitment tool

Innovation; The company can get a handful of students to innovate something in their field of interest

De-risking the chance of a bad hire; Ultimately we make the hiring manager look good towards their managers. By increasing the number of good hires they make.


To sum it up what 'sales' means; Find the right company, find the right person in that company, introduce the platform, get them set up and make sure they are happy using it.


Our need

I need someone who is ready to take charge of sales and marketing. Cold calling, Lead building, Network utilizing, Setup processes, Build and lead the sales and marketing team, Event attending and networking networking networking :) Whatever it takes to get the startup off the ground right?

You will be responsible for setting up the sales and marketing department from the ground up, you will be leading it as it grows and ultimate you will be responsible for the revenue generated.

I do have a few requirements for the right person;

  • We work out of the office in Copenhagen, not remote (yes we have remote days where we work from home, but in general we work from the office - when you are not on the road)

  • You must be able to speak Danish and English at business level


A bit about me

To take the startup further at a faster pace, I need help. And I need help with the things which drain my energy. I truly enjoy the product building/team building / forward-thinking. I consider myself a visionary type, but a 'doer' at the same time. I've been working as a project manager for the past 10 years and a lead digital producer leading a team of 5 digital producers for the past 2 years in a digital agency in London. I started my career as a web designer and flash developer (back when that was cool), so I've been almost through it all when it comes to building digital products.


Our offering

Let’s get down to business. I am not in a position to splash a whole lot of cash, unfortunately. However, what we can offer is:

  • Equity. As a co-founder/partner you will not be paid a salary until the business reaches a certain stage. I expect that stage to be between Q3-Q4 this year to Q1-Q2 2022. It depends on how well we do in terms of 'sales' and our ability to raise funding.

  • Mentoring: I very much believe in mentoring as the best growth tool. The intention is that everybody at Excelerate has a mentor.

  • Co-working space in Copenhagen, with a lunch buffet and free coffee! We are located near the metro station.

  • Flexible working hours, but working from the office most days would be preferred (in non-corona times).

This position is non-remote, so you must be a Greater Copenhagen resident. Ideally, you would start tomorrow, but right after your exams in May is also great.

Experience is not a prerequisite and I encourage both new graduates and seasoned startup people to send an application (of course, what you bring to the table will be reflected in the package I can offer you). Depending on where you are on your career path, working toward c-level is in the cards for this role, if you are not already there.
