Full-stack developer

Salary Competitive
Equity To be negotiated

We are looking for a skilled developer who can help us improve our EdTech product to schools, universities, and corporates. We are looking for a person that knows their way around Javascript, but we believe that you can learn the rest. Do you want to be part of a fast-growing EdTech startup and get great experience - then we are looking for you!

We build engaging and loved tools to facilitate deeper learning. Peergrade (www.peergrade.io) lets students learn from giving and receiving feedback from their peers. With Eduflow (www.eduflow.com) instructors can build incredible learning opportunities for their students by combining a range of engaging and social activities.

Our products are used by hundreds of thousands of people around the world, all the way from middle school history class to sales training at large corporates. We have raised money from investors such as Learn Capital (invested in Coursera) and Y Combinator (invested in Airbnb and Dropbox). Most importantly, our users love our products and love telling people about it 😍: https://www.notion.so/peergrade/Make-something-people-want-188e0b7d969c4c389893abdf0b87f2d8

We believe in building a product that works over smart sales strategies.

Software allows few people to have a large impact and that happens through a great product. We talk to our users every day, and they share their enthusiasm for Peergrade with us. This is what get us up in the morning.

Start-to-finish ownership

In small teams, the most effective way to work is for people to have ownership over projects and features instead of over a certain part of the stack.

Everyone in our tech team participates in ideation for new features, managing projects internally, building full features out from idea to production and on maintaining that feature continuously. Development projects have a project owner from the development team. That project owner is responsible for getting the project out and can pull on other people like designers, the CTO, marketing etc. for all the help they need.

Friends outside of work

One of the reasons we like to work in a small startup is that we can work with great people - not just because they are smart and extremely qualified, but also because they are great people. We have spent a lot of time together outside of work, for example when the entire team relocated to participate in Y Combinator in the summer of 2017 and lived together in a 3-bedroom for 3 months. Outside of work many people from the team coordinate different social events, but many people also meet on their own time to go concerts, trivia nights, parties and other activities. The last event was a company get-away to a luxury summer house for 10 days.

Continuous feedback

We believe in feedback - in all forms. We take feedback from our users through Intercom, and by meeting with them every week. People from our team regularly go and introduce new instructors at seminars, conferences and schedule meetings with instructors trying to implement Eduflow. We have monthly 1-on-1’s with everyone on the team and quarterly performance reviews. We try to have a very open feedback culture where everyone can bring up any request to anyone. The only way to avoid group-thinking is to really push each other’s ideas all the time. After each round of 1-on-1’s we change 2-3 things about the way we work on average, from better scheduling of holidays, new sprint structures to finding career mentors for employees.

Impressive team members

In order for us to stay small and have large impact, we need impressive people on the team. To give an example, we can highlight Tony one of the latest additions to the developer team. Tony has worked at a few startups before Peergrade, including another YC company. He has contributed to more than 100 open source projects and authored a book on tmux (The Tao of tmux). We believe more in great ambition than in a great CV, and value intelligent people with ideas. If you are really good at what you are doing, why should you come work with us? We would love to work with you, learn from what you know and help support you in shaping our product, our culture, our vision and our company. You would get a lot of freedom, we will never bug you down with any bureaucratic tasks and we would focus all of our effort on making you as effective as possible.

Committed to personal growth

At the core of Peergrade is a belief that the best way to learn is through mentorship, feedback, and by teaching others.

We incorporate a lot of opportunities for collaboration, code review and you will work very closely with the other members of the team. We always try to push developers with harder challenges and couple it with support from our CTO and others on the team. Through our performance reviews and 1-on-1’s we keep track of your growth and help you get to where you want to be, both in the short term and the long term. Not everyone wants to or is supposed to become management, so we try to accommodate for independent contributors too. The most important person for defining the growth trajectory of your career is yourself, and we are there to support you.

Fast-paced environment

We push to production 5-10 times each day. We test things with our users and we would always prefer pushing something that works in half the time over perfection since we know that most things will need to change over time. We can change strategy when needed, and there are no barriers to good ideas and confident ambitions.

Eats lunch together

We have a healthy catered lunch in the office every day (also allowing for vegan / vegetarian options).

Lunch is the time of the day where we can relax and talk about non-work related things. We have a private office in a co-working space, so there is always life around us. At least once a month there is an event in the co-working space that some people from our team participate in.

The job

We are looking to expand our team of developers to include a full-time full-stack developer. You will be working with our really skilled back-end developers and UX/UI people that know CSS and HTML, helping tie the ends together. You need to be comfortable spending your time with Python and Javascript.
