Agoprene AS

Agoprene is a biotech startup based in Oslo and Copenhagen. Agoprene is developing furniture foam from biomass to help the furniture industry reduce their need for petrochemicals. ​ Globally, furniture foam, which is derived from petroleum, accounts for 105 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. One armchair for example, emits an average of 43 kg CO2e, almost half of which is due to furniture foam. ​ Agoprene's foam is completely free of petrochemicals. We believe finding planet-friendly alternatives isn’t a challenge; it’s an opportunity.

Copenhagen Atomics A/S

We are changing the world! Copenhagen Atomics is building the next generation nuclear reactors for the world based on molten salt technology. This provides a cheap and clean energy source that aims to change the energy system in general. A thorium based molten salt reactor is small, efficient, safe and is burning the nuclear waste from current nuclear plants.

Trebo

Trebo is a cleantech startup that develops and manufactures a novel fluid-mechanical based plastic sorting technology. The sorting technology enables the plastic industry to sort large-scale plastic-type mixtures and transform the industry’s production waste into valuable resources. The Procurement costs on virgin materials are reduced and the environmental impact from incinerating or dumping plastic waste is eliminated. The annual global production of plastic has in 2019 exceeded more than 300,000,000,000 kg and even though the majority of plastic waste is suited for recycling purposes, more than 90% of the global production of plastic is either incinerated, deposited or dumped in nature. As the production of one kilogram of virgin plastic on average requires three kilograms of natural oil, the plastic industry is a global large-scale consumer of fossil fuels and therefore an important intrant in the green and sustainable changeover of the industry. Due to the wide palette of applications and physical characteristics of plastics, many end-user plastic products consist of one or more different types of plastic. As the quality and application performance of mixed plastic is decreased critically compared to the pure counterpart, plastic mixes are often considered as waste and therefore incinerated or sold to a price significantly lower than the price of the virgin plastic. Industrial waste streams of mixed plastic constitute approximately 60% of the total plastic waste stream. We believe it is critical to develop technologies that effectively sorts and restores the value and physical properties of the virgin plastic. NitroVolt

NitroVolt is decarbonizing nitrogen-based fertilizer production and making the agricultural sector more resilient with a novel production process. Commercial ammonia production supports 40-50% of the agricultural industry as a nitrogen-based fertilizer. But current ammonia production is not sustainable, releasing over 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions during production facilities and further emissions during transportation to the end user, farmers. NitroVolt offers a local ammonia production solution that gives farmers the ability to produce their own nitrogen-based fertilizer. The only inputs required by NitroVolt’s container-sized systems are air, water, and electricity, enabling production of sustainable ammonia directly at farms. NitroVolt’s patented electrochemical Nitrolyzer unit can make ammonia on-demand with intermittent renewable energy sources. With their technology, NitroVolt aims to decarbonize nitrogen-based fertilizer production one farm at a time, cut the logistic costs of distributing fertilizer, and make the agricultural sector more resilient to external factors.

Centrally located in Copenhagen, Flowering is developing bouquets with a reduced CO2 output to help environmentally conscious customers reduce waste and promote sustainability with beautifully crafted, eco-friendly floral arrangements. Flowering addresses the significant issue of flower waste in the floral industry. This problem affects both the environment and flower producers, contributing to unnecessary carbon footprints. The widespread waste impacts growers, retailers, and consumers who seek sustainable alternatives. Our team at Flowering sources surplus flowers that would otherwise be discarded and repurposes them into beautiful, high-quality bouquets in combination with local and certified flowers. By implementing efficient logistics and innovative design processes, we ensure these flowers reach customers fresh and vibrant, reducing waste and promoting sustainability without any intermediaries. The inspiration for Flowering came from witnessing the vast amounts of perfectly good flowers being discarded daily. Motivated by a passion for sustainability and a desire to make a positive environmental impact, we left our jobs and studies to focus on creating a business that not only delivers beauty but also champions environmental responsibility.
