In the European Union alone, more than 1.5 million paint buckets are discarded daily, constituting a disposal of 340 tons of single-use plastic that is incinerated each day. Starting from early 2023 (2025 in Denmark and Slovenia), manufacturers are obligated to cover the disposal costs of their packaging based on sustainability criteria. In Denmark, this translates to an estimated 15% fee on paint buckets. Furthermore, the conventional round shape of packaging has proven suboptimal for logistics and transportation. Beyond its environmental impact, the traditional paint bucket poses challenges for professional painters. These challenges encompass ergonomic issues during handling, such as the strain of lifting two buckets simultaneously, which exceeds recommended weight limits according to the Working Environment Authority. Painters also find themselves in awkward positions when pouring paint into a roller bucket for wall application. The demanding physical nature of the painting profession in Denmark results in accelerated fatigue and early retirement for painters. Additionally, issues like lid leakage due to dried paint and the use of fragile, porous plastic contribute to unexpected spills, particularly during abrupt vehicle stops. Our innovative solution involves a cardboard box housing two patent-pending plastic bags, each containing 5 liters of paint. This packaging not only enhances the workflow for professional painters but also reduces costs and lowers carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions by approximately 65% per unit. The box's design facilitates easy and ergonomic transportation, allowing for a 45% increase in units per pallet. The box is opened, and one of the bags is inserted into a standard roller bucket used by painters. The bag effortlessly opens and seamlessly fits into the roller bucket, wrapping around the edges, and enabling the painter to begin work promptly. This functionality is made possible through an innovative patented design and specific plastic welding techniques.

Fischer Lighting is a sustainable front-runner who has developed a unique circular business model where waste is transformed into new beautiful lamps that make buildings more sustainable and people healthier. In 2023, Fischer Lighting saved more than 53 tons of discarded lamps from being thrown away, and with the concepts ReUse, ReDesign, and ReCreate, unique lighting solutions are created in a beautiful and industrial design that meets all the requirements of a new lighting fixture. In addition to environmental sustainability, social sustainability is also an important part of the concept. Therefore, all the old lamps are separated and assembled by people on the edge of the labor market in Denmark. At the same time, the lamps are equipped with the latest technology, which, among other things, enables circadian lighting, which can stimulate the production of hormones in our body and create better well-being for people in buildings.

The green transition will be expensive. Utiligize makes the only data-driven asset management program that incorporates 2030/2040 EV, battery, wind and solar forecasts into lifetime models for every asset a utility owns. The need for cooling is growing all over the world due to global warming. STAC's focus is on developing zero emission cooling solutions using water as the refrigerant and our product solutions are made to plug and play replace current cooling chillers using destructive synthetic refrigerants. STAC Technology makes sustainable industrial cooling solutions exclusively using water as the refrigerant. STAC's cooling solutions are designed to be used in multiple applications across a variety of industries. STAC Technology is a hardtech cleantech R&D Engineering company was started in 2016 and has been going through a speedy development since 2020 and is now funded by EIC, European Innovation Council and the commercialization phase in 2024-2027 will be funded by a consortium consisting of EIB, European Investment Bank and others.

Flow Loop has developed a shower panel that is able to save up to 85% water and energy while providing a better flow than a standard shower.The savings are achieved by constantly micro-filtering, UV-purifying and recirculating shower water directly from the existing shower floor.Because the system is plug&play it is easy to retro-fit in existing bathrooms. The self-cleaning micro-filters ensure low maintenance. The high flow of recirculated water ensures higher comfort with a clean conscious. CWare is an independent research and consultancy SME conducting economic research, and providing strategic consulting services within Economics, Circular Economy, Sustainable Development, Resource Efficiency, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC). CWare was founded in 2020 as a spin-off and continue the works and involvement in a number of EU research projects within circular economy, urban resilience and transition to a green economy. CWare is based in Copenhagen and we are part of the BLOXHUB, the Nordic Hub for sustainable urbanization.
