We are HEMBOO: an early stage start-up with the vision of making low emissions, renewable materials the norm in construction. Besides fossil fuels, the production of concrete is the worst emitter of CO2 in the world. However it is the most used material within the construction sector. But not for long: climate legislation is about to make concrete a whole lot more expensive, by introducing a CO2 TAX. This leaves the construction companies with a problem as there is no valid sustainable alternative they can use. HEMBOO offers an easy solution: prefabricated walls for new construction made of hemp and bamboo with a reduction of 80% CO2 emitted compared to the traditionally used concrete walls. BUT the construction industry is very conservative and risk-averse. Therefore getting to market is a long journey. We built our first prototype are now preparing for the second one and are gathering data on the needs of our customers. Our aim is to provide a solution similar enough in prefabrication and installation methods, to make the transition from concrete fast and easy. Our element is designed for large scaled production so that we can have the largest impact. Recently we have received a total of 520.000 dkk in soft funding for product development and are participating in multiple startup support programs so it is full speed ahead! Helena and Elsa graduated as architectural engineers from DTU while Michael is finishing up his studies in design and entrepreneurship. We started HEMBOO because we are all very passionate about making an environmental impact. As a team we have a lot fun together, while still being productive. We are devoted to accelerating the development and adoption of technologies that can help fight climate change by actively removing CO2 from the atmosphere. The challenge We are emitting 50 Gigatons of CO2 every year, and that needs to be reduced by at least 80%. However, that still leaves 10 Gigatons of CO2, and we need to get all the way to zero. Trees are great, but we need many more solutions as well if we are to get to zero. Currently, most of these are way too expensive (and limited in capacity) for companies to use. We've developed a platform that combines methods and makes it available to every company that wants to compensate their emissions. We work with cutting edge technologies, including Direct Air Capture, Bio char, Bio oil etc.

Fischer Lighting is a sustainable front-runner who has developed a unique circular business model where waste is transformed into new beautiful lamps that make buildings more sustainable and people healthier. In 2023, Fischer Lighting saved more than 53 tons of discarded lamps from being thrown away, and with the concepts ReUse, ReDesign, and ReCreate, unique lighting solutions are created in a beautiful and industrial design that meets all the requirements of a new lighting fixture. In addition to environmental sustainability, social sustainability is also an important part of the concept. Therefore, all the old lamps are separated and assembled by people on the edge of the labor market in Denmark. At the same time, the lamps are equipped with the latest technology, which, among other things, enables circadian lighting, which can stimulate the production of hormones in our body and create better well-being for people in buildings.

Many people are talking about the smart grid and how we can reach 100% sustainable energy, and avoid global warming getting out of hand, by intelligently balancing the consumption so it fits with the electricity production. At True Energy we're already doing it! True Energy offers a smart charging app to our end users so they can register their car or charger and have it start or stop charging based on the hour of day and the electricity price, so the user optimizes their charging to be cheapest. The service is free of charge for the end user because they participate in our flexibility pool where the power companies can buy offsetting of the consumption if the grid is overloaded or production is expensive. We use Google Workspace, GitLab as code repo, Jira for our agile project management, and Slack for chat. We have a policy of 100% line coverage for unit tests, and want to support continuous delivery. We focus on collaboration and an open, inclusive work environment. Our team is multinational, and the working language is English, so full proficiency is required.. We have team members in several time zones.

Updrift Copenhagen er en dansk klima-startup, der gentænker, hvordan byer og mennesker lever med vand. Klimaforandringerne betyder kraftigere regn og hyppigere skybrud. Vores kloakker er ikke bygget til de vandmængder, og løsningen har hidtil været store, dyre anlæg – bassiner og tunneler til hundredvis af millioner, der graves dybt og tager årevis at bygge. Vi tror på en anden vej. Vores patenterede skybrudsventil monteres på husets nedløbsrør og leder skybruddet væk fra kloakken, ud på terræn, hvor det ikke gør skade, netop når presset på systemet er størst. Alene gør én ventil en lille forskel. Men sætter man dem op mange steder i et område, aflaster de tilsammen hele kloaksystemet. Vi kalder det mikroinfrastruktur: mange små greb, der tilsammen løser et stort problem. Effekten er dokumenteret gennem hydraulisk modellering og test hos Teknologisk Institut og WSP, og løsningen er allerede i brug i over 400 husstande på tværs af fire danske kommuner. I ét pilotprojekt erstattede vores ventiler et planlagt betonbassin - med samme effekt på kloakken, til under en tredjedel af prisen og med et markant lavere CO₂-aftryk.
