Sitova

Sitova is a Finnish online service that lets people prepare important family and inheritance documents themselves, step by step, at a fixed price. The problem: almost every Finnish family will at some point need documents like an estate inventory (perukirja), an estate distribution agreement, a will or a continuing power of attorney. These documents have strict legal form requirements, such as witnesses, signatures and registration, and some have statutory deadlines. Most people do this only once or twice in their lives, often during a stressful time such as the death of a parent. Their options have been to pay a law firm or bank several hundred euros or more, or to fill in a generic template and hope it is legally valid. Our solution: Sitova asks plain-language questions in Finnish and turns the answers into a finished, legally structured PDF. It comes with clear instructions on how to sign it, who can act as a witness and where to file it. The service covers ten documents: estate inventories, estate distribution agreements, wills, continuing powers of attorney, prenuptial agreements, property division agreements, deeds of gift, promissory notes, powers of attorney and bills of sale. Previews are free and prices are fixed, so users know the cost before they commit. Why now: Finnish authorities are moving estate matters online, and people increasingly expect to handle legal paperwork the same way they handle banking. Simple, uncontested cases do not need hours of billed legal work. Alongside the service we publish free guides, inheritance and gift tax calculators, and an open dataset (CC BY 4.0) on the legal requirements, authority fees and deadlines of these documents.
