Machinist
Location: Espoo, Finland
Department: Global Manufacturing Organisation
Reports to: AIT Engineering Team Manager
Employment type: Permanent
Workplace model: Hybrid / Office
Employment is subject to applicable security screening (incl. SUPO, where required)
We are seeking a Precision Machinist to be embedded with our Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) team to support high-cadence satellite production. As production scales toward an aggressive takt time target, the ability to resolve mechanical issues on the floor without dependency on external supplier loops or reorder cycles becomes a critical capability. This person is the on-floor technical resource who keeps the line moving: triaging mechanical issues the moment they appear, fixing them as soon as possible, and building the in-house rework capability that makes production independent and reliable at scale.
ICEYE is the world leader in sovereign intelligence from space. We deliver persistent monitoring capabilities to detect and respond to changes in any location on Earth.
ICEYE owns the world's largest and most advanced SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellite constellation. To our customers we provide intelligence with unmatched quality, latency and revisit times, in any weather, day or night. To governments who choose to operate their own constellation we provide this proven capability as a sovereign system.
ICEYE-built constellations serve customers in defence and intelligence, environmental monitoring, insurance and emergency management. We enable fast decisions that contribute to a safer future.
Founded and headquartered in Finland, ICEYE operates globally with over 1000 employees across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
Perform hands-on mechanical rework during satellite integration: helicoil and thread insert installation, broken screw extraction, fastener replacement, and fitting adjustments resolved on the integration floor, same session as discovery, without production hold
Maintain and deploy a standard tooling kit at integration stations (calibrated torque drivers, thread inserts in common sizes, extraction tools, bore gauges) to prevent and immediately resolve issues before they become logged NCs
Inspect parts against engineering drawings, measure critical dimensions using CMM, micrometers, and bore gauges, and provide a clear technical disposition.
Machine corrected or replacement parts from stock when in-place rework is not sufficient turning and milling of small parts to drawing tolerances
Log all rework actions in Jira with sufficient traceability to support NC disposition and root cause analysis
Identify and flag recurring mechanical failure patterns and collaborate with engineering to eliminate them upstream before they generate the next NC
Must haves:
5+ years of hands-on experience in precision machining or mechanical manufacturing with demonstrated ability to work to tight tolerances (±10 µm or better)
Manual and CNC machining: lathe and mill operation for small parts in aluminium, stainless steel, and engineering plastics; ability to program CNC machines from drawing to finished part, including tool path generation, feeds and speeds selection, and first-article verification
Thread repair proficiency: helicoil / Recoil / Keensert installation across a range of thread sizes, and broken parts extraction
Proficiency with precision measurement equipment: micrometers, bore gauges, pin gauges, and CMM operation
Tool and equipment ownership: maintain, calibrate, and manage the integration tooling kit, torque drivers, thread gauges, bore gauges, extraction tools, and insert consumables ensuring everything is in serviceable condition, correctly calibrated, and available at the point of use when the production line needs it
Ability to read and interpret GD&T toleranced engineering drawings and make independent disposition decisions from them
Fluent in English (working language of the team)
Nice to haves:
Experience in aerospace, defence, precision instruments, motorsport, or high-reliability manufacturing environments
Familiarity with aerospace-grade materials
Experience using Jira or similar shop floor NC tracking systems
Exposure to cleanroom or ESD-controlled work environments
Knowledge and experience operating torque tools in structurally critical applications.
Experience supporting engineering on NC disposition or supplier corrective action
